Anybody who follows my blog knows that Halloween has been my favorite holiday since I was a little kid. I did outgrew trick-or-treating at a younger age than most, I still love the holiday, which you can probably tell that by my 31 Days of Halloween posts.The Halloween Spirit entered me way before October, as I have had four boxes of Halloween props and decorations in my family room for a couple of weeks. Plus, I have made 10 29" cemetery fences and one freaky tombstone out of foam board.

Normally, there are between 120 to 130 trick-or-treaters at the door every year, give or take a few. I put together at least 130 bags of candy, plus I keep a little extra candy for backup. The prices of candy has gone up and the quantity has decreased. I have a few bags already bought, but I'll be looking around to the last minute to find the best buy.

Many adults like to dress up for the holiday, which I'm one of them. Department stores have their Halloween stuff on sale after October 31st and I had bought two t-shirts (Michael Meyers and Jason Voorhees) at Walmart for 75 cents each, but I didn't know until last year that they were a size too small, so I was stuck wearing a Jack-O-Lantern shirt. I've dropped a few pounds over the summer and I can now get the shirts on, but they aren't exactly comfortable, so I'll probably wear the Jack-O-Lantern again! Though, I do have the Jason Voorhees costume that I reviewed on the 1st, but I might use it for a dummy/scarecrow to put in the yard on Halloween Night. I've looked in the stores and there isn't a very big option for t-shirts this year, but there are many online stores with different options for male costumes, like Michael Meyers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface and Chucky.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, Pacific Rim is an epic science fiction film set in the 2020s. Earth is at war with Kaijus; colossal monsters from an inter-dimensional gateway on the Pacific Ocean floor. Humanity unites to fight these huge monsters by creating the Jaegers: gigantic humanoid robots that are controlled by two pilots whose minds and memories are linked. The story takes place in the later days of the war, following Raleigh Becket, a former Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and paired up with newbie pilot Mako Mori in a final effort to defeat the Kaijus!

From Rob Zombie (the director of House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil Rejects, Halloween & Halloween II) comes his latest venture into the horror genre with The Lords of Salem, which received limited theater run and landed on DVD on September 3, 2013.

Rob's wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, stars as a recovering drug addict, Hedi Hawthorne, who works at a radio station as a DJ. A strange wooden box is delivered to the radio station addressed to her, containing an album by the Lords of Salem, a band she or her co-workers (Whitey & Herman) have never heard of before. That night she starts to have strange dreams or more like visions of witches and a baby.

The following day, Hedi and her co-works interview Francis Matthias about his book covering the Salem Witch Trials. They happen to play the strange record that will unleash more strange visions for Hedi. Later that night when she arrives at her home, Hedi shares a drink with her landlord, Lacy, and her two sisters (Sonny and Megan), until an odd situation makes her return to her room where her dog is behaving weird; leading her to enter apartment room 5 where she is confront by a nude witch and a demon.

The Halloween holiday is right around the corner, and what better ways to be prepared for it than to find money-saving ideas. It’s understandable how difficult the search for the perfect costume can be, especially when the majority of them are so expensive. Here are some DIY costume projects and tips for you and your family to keep your Halloween enjoyable and thrilling while staying on a reasonable budget.

Black Cat Costume

This costume idea is very simplistic. Wear solid black shoes, pants and a shirt. Tease your hair all around to create a mane-like look. Draw whiskers on your cheeks, color the tip of your nose black and your lips red or pink to give yourself a cat face. Finish off the costume by braiding yarn together to make a cat tail.

Bed Bug Costume

This idea would be great for kids. First, dress them up in their favorite pajamas. Then, make antennas with a headband and pipe cleaner craft supplies. Fix your face up with a colorful nose and rosy cheeks.

Super Mario Bros. Costume

Do you have overalls? What about solid red and green shirts? This costume is for you! Include matching red and green hats and toy wrenches and you have got Super Mario Bros. This is fun for both spouses and siblings.

Mill Creek Entertainment recently released 12 low-budget independent horror movies on a three-disc set titled Freak Show Cinema, just in time for Halloween.

The 12 movies are:


Tales of the Dead: Grim Stories of Curses, Horror and Gore (2010) - Five friends gather together every year at Halloween to tell spooky tales, but they are unaware of the horror that awaits them.

Zombie Genocide: Legion of the Damned (2012) - A biochemical terrorist attacks, resulting in humans turning into flesh-eating zombies. This movie actually came out in 2006 under the title "Deadlands: The Rising."

The Curse of Blanchard Hill (2006) - In 1985, Victor McShane went missing near the Blanchard Hill. Twenty years later, a group of campers stumble upon Blanchard Hill and they are being stalked by a killer.

Idol of Evil: Hell Is Forever (2009) - Dr. Kixley and others are kidnapped by Satanists, David Hilton (a mythological expert) is requested by the Vatican to rescue them. Though the back of the DVD jacket says it was released in 2009, it was actually released in 2011.

Below Ground: Demon Holocaust (2012) - Dave Dommin takes in four people during a demon invasion and he documents everything as they try to survive.

You'll know it is getting closer to the holiday season when you start to see books with Christmas is in the titles. Author Tricia Goyer released her newest novella A Christmas Gift for Rose last month, and, as you can probably guess, it is set around Christmastime.

Inspired by a true story, the main Amish character is named Rose Yoeder, who lives in Berlin, Ohio in 1945. She was engaged to Jonathan, but to respect her family’s wishes, she had to breakup with him because he had enlisted in the military to serve his country in WWII, working side-by-side with the Englisch, something that is frown upon in the Amish community.

Review:

Two of Disney's best franchises collided together yesterday with the DVD release of Phineas & Ferb: Mission Marvel, where everybody's favorite stepbrothers teamed up with Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor and Iron Man. This exciting DVD comes with six bonus adventures from season four of the series.

In Mission Marvel, Phineas & Ferb have a built a space station that is orbiting Earth. Dr. Doofenshmirtz is up to no good again and accidentally blasts his "Power-Drain-Inator" into space, which it ricochets off the space station and hits Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk, draining them of their superpowers. Though they are just kids, it is up to Phineas & Ferb (and a little help from Agent P) to help the superheroes regain their powers and stop the super villains from destroying the Tri-State Area.
