DVD Review - Ballroom Dance Mastery

While dancing has always been popular, it has become more mainstream thanks to reality shows like Dancing With The Stars and You Can Think You Can Dance. Now it seems everyone wants to learn to dance like the pros, which isn't easy if you have two left feet (like myself).

Studios have been taking advantage of the dancing popularity by releasing dancing cardio workouts. These programs are great for people that are already fit and have some sort dancing experience, but if you are like me, then you're going to need a program that starts with the basics, so you can learn each move step-by-step.

For the past few weeks, I have been reviewing several "learn to dance" DVDs from DanceCrazy.com, including the Ballroom Dance Mastery System 7-disc set. The set includes:

Beginners Foxtrot  - (80 minutes)
Beginners Waltz Vol. 1 - (63 minutes)
Beginners Walts Vol. 2 - (52 minutes)
Beginners Swing Vol. 1 - (111 minutes)
Beginners Swing Vol. 2 - (54 minutes)
Beginners Rumba Vol. 1 - (68 minutes)
Beginners Rumba Vol. 2 - (54 minutes)

Yep, it is time once again for another dancing workout DVD review. If you don't follow my blog regularly, then I'll give you a little update. Due to my bad knee, I shouldn't be doing high intensity exercises, so I have been trying out a few dancing DVDs.

The Waltz first became a dance during the 16th Century and continues to be one of the most popular dances today. If you're not a dancer, like me, then you've probably don't know too much about the Waltz, except for what we have seen in the movies and on Dancing With The Stars.

DanceCrazy.com has been releasing dancing workouts to DVD for several years. I've been trying out the Beginning Waltz: A Step-By-Step Guide! Volume 1 for the last few weeks. The 63-minute DVD features a male and a female instructors, whom guides you step-by-step through the basic Waltz steps.

The DVD is broken down into these sections:

Review:

Dancing workouts and learn-to-dance DVDS have become more popular thanks to reality shows, such as Dancing With The Stars. Personally, I haven't taken much interests in dancing, mostly because I have two left feet. However, I do like exercising and beginner dancing workouts are more low intensity than other at-home workouts, so I have been trying out some dancing workouts including Learn to Swing - Beginning Volume 1 from DanceCrazy.com
If you have every seen an older movie with swing dancing in it, then you know the steps in it are fast, so attempting to learn such a dance may seem like a bit of a challenge. The two instructors in Learn to Swing - Beginning Volume 1 give a step-by-step guide to learn several dance patterns.

You'll learn how to:

Basic Step (City Swing)
East Coast Step
Release Break
Right Underarm Turn
Left Underarm Turn
Right & Left Turn
The Cuddle
Men's Turns

I have no clue how to dance. I use to avoid dancing at all costs, because I feared that I would embarrass myself with my two left feet. Exercising has been a bit of a problem for me because of an injury, so I've been avoiding any high intensity workout. I have been looking for a new exercise that is isn't too demanding, so I finally decided to look into a dancing workout. Luckily for me, I got a chance to try the Salsa Dance Mastery System from salsacrazy.com.

The Salsa Dance Mastery System contains five discs (Beginners Vols. 1, 2, 3 & Intermediate Vols. 4 & 5). Of course with it being an introduction set, you have to learn the basic moves, step-by-step. The set retails at $147, but it currently priced at $67 on Amazon.

There are two instructors (male and female) throughout the Salsa Dance Mastery System. The first disc basically explains the basic steps in salsa dancing. It is a little boring, but you need to go through it, so you can master your steps and then you can go on to the next disc.

Let's just say that I have never been coordinated enough to  attempt to dance in public. I know that I'm not alone in this as many people out there can't dance. I have always heard that a key to any dancer is a strong core and one way to a strong core is through pilates.

Pilates was started by German-born Joseph Pilates during the early 20th Century. There are now millions of people, including dancers, who practice pilates, which involves muscle control, breathing and concentration.

Pilates for Dancers was released by SalsaCrazy.com and was created for anyone, dancer or non-dancer, to learn the basics of pilates. You'll learn 24 step-by-step exercises that will help you lose weight, strengthen your core and get into shape.

The 24 exercises are:
