THE SUNDAY POST, ISSUE #270

Happy Sunday, Everyone!

I hope you’re all having a fantastic weekend! As I sit here sipping my coffee, I’ve realized that no amount of caffeine seems to be enough to fuel my brain today. The disaster every book blogger dreads struck me this week—a bookcase went into a dramatic collapse! This wasn’t just any bookcase; it was a flimsy particle board one that’s been my trusty companion for over twenty years. The last few days have turned into a chaotic DIY project. I spent hours carefully removing books, disassembling the wobbly structure, wrestling with sagging shelves, and then, after some much-needed reinforcement, reassembling the whole thing. Last night was dedicated to the gratifying yet arduous task of organizing my precious books back onto the shelves. Once my back recovers, my next mission will be giving that second bookcase a sturdy reinforcement before it decides to join its sibling in peril!

This Past Week...

In the midst of all that chaos, I squeezed in a bit of purging. I boxed up some books and made a drop-off at the Salvation Army—this had nothing to do with the bookcase disaster, I promise! I managed to publish a review for Monarch by Ryan Steck on the blog.

Over on Gunsmoke & Grit, I explored the audiobook Hell's Half Acre: Cold-Blooded and featured The Trouble at Peña Blanca by Nelson Nye in my Friday 56 post.

Coming Next Week...

Get ready for more reviews! I’m aiming to share my thoughts on Midnight Black by Mark Greaney tomorrow, and I’ll also dig into The Madness by Dawn Kurtagich. And, who knows? A couple of surprise reviews might just be around the corner.

Don’t forget to check out my upcoming review of The Trailsman: Valley of Death by John Sharpe, which I plan to post on Wednesday at Gunsmoke & Grit

Bookmarked...

I really tried to read into Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito, but it just didn’t capture my interest and I had to let it go after a few pages. I returned it to the library along with another book I can’t seem to recall at the moment. Thankfully, two new titles are now in my possession: Colton Gray, Deputy U.S. Marshal by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone, and Shadow of the Solstice by Anne Hillerman. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on Colton Gray over at Gunsmoke & Grit next week. And right here, I'll be reading Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Toward the Night by James Swallow.

New to the Bookshelf...

I picked up Freida McFadden’s latest thriller, The Tenant. I also found at the thrift store: Tobacco Road by Erskine Caldwell (First Modern Family Edition, 1947) and The Green Age of Asher Witherow by M. Alleen Cunningham.

For all the other intriguing titles I discovered, swing by Gunsmoke & Grit for the full scoop!

How has your week been? What captivating reads are keeping you company right now? I’d love to hear all about it!

  1. Oh no! That sounds absolutely tragic! I hope the recovery period will be swift!

Nice new reads! They're new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

I read The Madness last year and thought it was an intriguing take to the Dracula tale! Hope you enjoy it too!

  2. IKEA bookcase by any chance? Mine never collapsed but when I got rid of them all last year I noticed the backs of all four of them were bowed and popped loose in places. I'm glad you were able to reinforce yours and get more life out of them and YAY to the fun of reorganizing them back onto their shelves!

    1. I bought the bookcase at Walmart; I don't recall the brand name. I've heard other stories about IKEA bookcases falling apart.
