{Sunday Post} — The Books Are Out There

What Am I Reading?

My reading mojo is still in limbo, but I hope to find it again with my current read, Persuader, written by Lee Child. I want to read it before the new season of Reacher this month. Then, I'll probably move on to Into the Gray Zone by Brad Taylor.

Song of the Week

What's in the Mailbox?

Even though I already have the Kindle version, I've been eying the hardcover of The X-Files: Perihelion by Claudia Gray. The book finally went on sale last month, so I had to order it. Now, I need to find the time to read it.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

I picked up Freida McFadden's thriller, The Crash, at Walmart at the end of January, and I also picked up Survive the Night by Riley Sager this past week.

I went a little crazy at Dollar General, buying seven $3 paperbacks: Black Fox and the Outlaw Kingdom by Matt Braun, Ralph Compton's The Reluctant Lawman by Craig Barstow, Lincoln's Last Trial by Dan Abrams and David Fisher, The Lincoln Conspiracy by Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch, Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Treachery by Brian Freeman, Robert Ludlum's The Treadstone Exile by Joshua Hood, and Viral by Robin Cook.

I went to an antique flea market at the end of January and—don't be shocked—bought four Western paperbacks: Lonestar and the Alaskan Renegades by Wesley Ellis, Lonestar in the Choctaw Nation by Wesley Ellis, Slocum and the Avenging Gun by Jake Logan, and The Sunshine Basin War by Jake Logan. For only $2, I got Valley of Wild Horses by Zane Grey on hardback; published in 1927. Also, I got With These Hands by Louis L'Amour and Artic Drift by Clive Cussler and Dirk Cussler.

I stopped by the local Salvation Army thrift store this past Monday and found two Star Trek hardcovers, Yesterday's Son by A.C. Crispin and My Enemy, My Ally by Diane Duane from the early 1980s. As you can see in the above image, Yesterday's Son has some spine damage. I've been wanting to get into book binding repair, especially for some old Zane Grey hardcovers I have in my collection; I ordered some dark blue binding tape and will experiment with this book before ordering more tape, paste, and materials to repair the Zane Grey books. The supplies aren't cheap, so I haven't fixed them.

Back to my finds, I picked up three Tom Clancy paperbacks: Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell: Checkmate (written by David Michaels), and Op-Center: Out of the Ashes (written by Dick Couch and Geroge Galdorisi), and two Western paperbacks: The Changing Wing by Don Goldsmith and Stagecoach to Purgatory by Peter Brandvold.

I grabbed three hardcovers from Dollar Tree for $1.25 apiece: Sea Hawke by Ted Bell, Prodigal Son by Greg Hurwitz, and The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter.

My new Kindle titles are Star Trek: Prometheus: In the Heart of Chaos by Bernd Perplies and Christian Humberg, Star Trek: DS9: Time's Enemy (Invasion! book 3) by L.A. Graf, Star Trek: DS9: Prophecy and Change
edited by Marco Palmieri, Star Trek: New Frontier: The Quiet Place by Peter David, Star Trek: Dreams of the Raven by Carter Carmen, Star Trek: TNG: Debtor's Planet by W.R. Thompson, Star Trek: Stargazer: Three by Michael Jan Friedman, To the River's End by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone, and Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, Nobody's Angel by Jack Clark, Supernatural: Nevermore by Keith R.A. DeCandido, Skinwalkers by Tony Hillerman, The Fallen Man by Tony Hillerman, Talking God by Tony Hillerman, Rock with Wings by Anne Hillerman, Song of the Lion by Anne Hillerman, The Triumph of the Spider Monkey by Joyce Carol Oates, Castle Dor by Daphne de Maurier.

  1. You read some hard core thriller books and sci-fi. I have some of those to read too like Riley Sager. Hope they are all fun to read.
