Since the creation of the NXT development league, the WWE (initially created by showrunner Vince McMahon) has seen an intensive talent increase that has made matches even more exciting and unforgettable. For example, a recent event featuring superstars Bianca Belair and Naomi saw the two dynamite performers hold onto their tag team championship against tough competition.
The Event in Short
On January 28, 2025, WWE Women's Tag Team champs Bianca Belair and Naomi faced tough competition against Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson. The two challengers had tried and failed to get the championship three times. Unfortunately for them, they weren't able to get over the hump and beat the dominance of Belair and Naomi at their own game for a fourth time.
It got a low closer than many expected, however. In fact, it looked pretty dire for the champs at times!
In one inspired moment, Jackson and Legend took out Naomi with a neckbreaker-facebuster that should have ended it all right there. Legend sprawled over Naomi for what would have been the obvious pin, but Belair leaped into the ring and broke it up. In the chaos after that, Belair sent Legend through the ropes, Naomi reversed a fall from Jackson and ended with a double KOD.
Fans were on their feet throughout the match, chanting their favorite performers' names at the top of their lungs. Belair and Naomi seemed to get most of the cheers, though there were plenty of Jackson and Legend fans out there, too. Now 2-0 in their televised title defenses, the two look to be pretty much unbeatable and remain absolute favorites with fans and critics alike.
A Look at the Champs
Over the last few years, Bianca Belair has become a living legend in her own time. Anybody who knew her before the ring is unlikely unsurprised because she's always been the kind of athlete to get things down. While at the University of Tennessee, she earned All-SEC and All-American Honors in track and field and can deadlift a staggering 415 pounds!
Naomi's rise to the top is the mirror image of her partner's! Once a dancer for the Orlando Magic and on-stage for Flo Rida, Naomi launched her wrestling career on WWE NXT as one-half of The Funkadactyls. Eventually, she made a name for herself due to her instant on-screen charisma, athleticism, and ability to work well alongside performers like Sasha Banks and Tamina.
Good Things Come to Those Who Wait
Since they've paired up in the ring, Belair and Naomi keep getting better and better. With their on-screen chemistry and powerful competitive spirit, it's clear that their dominance as a tag team could last for a long time. However, the world of wrestling is often unpredictable, and perhaps it won't be too long before Jackson and Legend (or another pair of upstart performers) get it together and take the crown. If they do, that's going to be one heck of a match, one that viewers can't afford to miss!
