{Sunday Post} — Babylon 5, Killing the Rising Sun, and Princess of Dune

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • The week flew by far too quickly.

  • Given how bad they've been playing this month, let's hope the KC Chiefs win today.

What Am I Currently Reading?

My next two reads, probably my final reads of 2023, are Losing Spring by V.C. Andrews (ghostwritten by Andrew Neiderman) and Making It So by Patrick Stewart.

What's in the Mailbox?

Warner Bros. Entertainment kindly sent me the Babylon 5: The Complete Series Blu-ray set. Paramount Pictures sent a Blu-ray copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. I'll post reviews for these in a few days, if not sooner.

My friend from the East Coast sent me two Christmas presents: Princess of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson and The Witcher: Season of Storms by Andrzej Sapkowski.

What's New on the Shelf?

I'm not complaining, but strangely, the Dollar Generals in my neighborhood have refilled their paperbacks. Usually, this happens once or twice a year, not every month. My most recent picks were Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's Killing the Rising Sun, Ralph Compton's Bluff City by David Robbins, and Ralph Compton's Death of a Bad Man by Marcus Galloway.

Warning: I've been thrifting again! What can I say? I can't resist a "$1 bag" sale. I got Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Terror Time; The Black Ice by Michael Connelly; William M. Johnstone's The First Mountain Man: Preacher's Assault by J.A. Johnstone; William M. Johnstone's Luke Jensen: Bounty Hunter: Burning Daylight by J.A. Johnstone; Quest of the Mountain Man by William W. Johnstone; The Camel Club by David Baldacci; Hour Game by David Baladacci; Ralph Compton's Phantom Hill by Carlton Stowers; Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover; and The Next Accident by Lisa Gardner. There are two repeats here, but not by accident: The Camel Club and The Black Ice. I forgot to take my phone with me, so I didn't have the list of titles that I needed. I went ahead and got these two anyway. It turns out I do have both of them. No biggie; I'll donate them somewhere sometime.

I found another free Star Trek book at my local library. It's the novelization of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home by Vonda N. McIntyre. Additionally, I picked up Run Away by Harlan Coben and The Last Window by Karin Slaughter.

At Dollar Tree, I bought the hardback The Prized Girl by Amy K. Green.

  2. I haven't really been paying attention to the Chiefs lately. I know the other weekend my mom was happy that the Packers won against them. She likes the Chiefs, but I think Packers rank above them for her. Lol.

    Nice new reads! Those are all new to me ones! I hope you enjoy them all!

  4. I should probably start strange New Worlds, as a TOS fan I'd probably love it.

    1. Strange New Worlds is a spinoff of Discovery's second season. I don't recommend watching Discovery, though season two is tolerable thanks to Captain Pike and Spock. Strange New Worlds is a reimagined prequel; one character, La'an, is a descendant of Khan, which causes a bit of a continuity issue. Despite some obvious writing flaws, Strange New Worlds is the fun series of the new Trek.

    2. Huh, that's good to know. I kind of stayed away from abrams' reimaginings but this sounds like I might enjoy it, as long as I don't let myself get too hung up on the continuity issue :):)
