{Sunday Post} — James Bond, Star Trek, and The X-Files

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • It was a long, busy week, but I had enough time to read three books.

  • After getting sick and tired of hearing the shower drip (and drip), I removed the shower faucet handle and figured out the issue - one of the seats & springs needed replacing. After not finding the right-size piece at the local hardware store, I went to a different county to two other stores that didn't have the size. Eventually, I returned to my town's store and bought a Delta repair kit for a kitchen sink, which had similar-size seats & springs. And it worked; the dripping stopped. While I had the faucet apart, I replaced the other seats & springs, two washers, and a rubber seal.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I received a paperback copy of Star Trek: Picard: Second Self by Una McCormack on Friday afternoon. Since I'm all caught up on ARCs, I'll start reading this book soonish - a.k.a. in a day or two.

What's New on the Shelf?

It's weird that all of a sudden, I'm finding X-Files novels. Last week, I found two hardcovers at a new thrift store, and this past Monday, I found a paperback of The X-Files: Goblins by Charles Grant at the Salvation Army. It's my second copy. The other copy in my possession—I've had it since the book first got published in December 1994, and it has some wear and tear.

I picked up two other books at the Salvation Army; one is new to my collection, and the other is a repeat. The new one is Licence Renewed by John Gardner. It was the first original (non-novelization) James Bond novel, first published in 1981, since Ian Fleming's death. Gardner wrote 13 other 007 books (and two novelizations) until his retirement in 1996.

Last is Chainer by Terry Goodkind, a "repeat." The paperback is a little worn out around the spine, which some acid-free tape will fix, but it's in better condition than my first copy.

  1. My hearing is so bad I never hear the "shower drips," but they drive my husband crazy. Your book haul looks good. Here's my SP: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2023/08/20/sunday-post-back-home/

  2. I love that Star Trek music. Love seeing the old paperbacks...

    A Black Sails rewatch sounds awesome. Now you have me thinking of doing that :):)

  3. Isn't it baffling how a little drip can drive us crazy? Glad you figured it out. My husband would have quit and bought a whole new shower head. LOL
