  Billy's Answer

While I have nothing against a series, I would rather read standalones. I would invest less (emotionally and financially) with standalones, while the opposite would happen with a series. And with some series, the quality of the stories tends to decline with time, leaving me feeling disappointed. So, standalones are more safe, and if the story is bad, it doesn't affect me as much.

  1. I can roll either way. I appreciate a good series, but I have no problems with a stand-alone. What grates on my nerves is when an author starts a series and leaves it hanging.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. I've had that happen a few times. Usually, it means the book sales aren't good and the publisher has decided to wind down the series. However, that's not the case for the Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) novels. The author, George R. R. Martin, is the slowest writer. I still have doubts that the last two books will ever be finished.

  2. I've been lucky with the series that I have read as I've not read one where the stories weren't as good. Maybe I'm just easily pleased 😂

    1. I've read book series where the author has died and another author (or authors) takes over, and that is when the quality goes downhill. That's happened with V.C. Andrews' books.

  3. I'm the exact opposite with my preferences, but I understand your reasons. Have a great weekend. :-)

  4. I don't mind either. I like standalones because they are one and dones and are enjoyable! Series lets you stay with characters and some storylines longer, but with my poor memory that's not always so great as I can't remember details.

    Here's my BBH

  5. Either work for me though I do prefer to read series that are already done (or at the least, have the last one coming out soon) so I can read them in one go!!

  6. I'm happy to read both especially if I love a series.

  7. I love books that are part of a series but definitely agree that sometimes the quality can go down. I think most series have a point where they need to end.
