{Sunday Post} — The Annals of the Heechee, Black Ice, and Captain's Peril

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • Over the past week, I've been suffering from a bad cold. It started as a simple sore throat, which was bearable, but it rapidly progressed into a head cold. For a few days, I couldn't speak. I'm still stuffy and coughing. FYI: I probably shouldn't have mowed the yard on Friday afternoon in the cold weather.

What Am I Currently Reading?

When you're continually blowing your nose and coughing, it's tough to read. I did complete Quentin Tarantino's Cinema Speculation on a Saturday afternoon. Regardless of how I feel today, I need to start reading D.B. Woodling's The Immortal Detective because my review for a book tour is due on the 12th.

Following that, I should probably read Weeks: Book 3 by Jasyn T. Turley, but a part of me wants to return to Lawrence Block's The Girl with the Long Green Heart. But I have two library books to read: Brimstone by Preston & Child and How to Sell a Haunted House by Gary Hendrix. Plus, I need to read Monster by Brynn Chapman for a blog tour on the 18th. After that, I have to read Patrick Worrall's The Partisan for a blog tour that starts on April 24.

Then there's Countdown by James Patterson and Brendan DuBois, and Where Are the Children Now? by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke. And sometime or another, I'll read Dungeons & Dragons: The Druid's Call by E. K. Johnston.

What's in the Mail?

I finally received a copy of the graphic novel West of Sundown, which I've already reviewed via a pdf copy. Lionsgate sent me The Walking Dead: The Complete Eleventh Season Blu-ray that I requested to review; I didn't think they would send anything since the release date was mid-March. Also, in the mail, I got Goosebumps SlappyWorld: Night of the Squawker by R.L. Stine, which I had ordered from Amazon.

I should have waited a few days before purchasing Star Trek: The Captain's Peril on eBay because the eBook got lowered to 99 cents. Moreover, I misinformed everyone in last week's comment section about the type of book I had purchased: it was a paperback, not a hardback. The cover has minor wear and tear, as seen in the photo, but the spine and pages are in good condition. My other eBay purchase was Star Trek: Preserver. Indeed, another William Shatner novel (albeit not written by him).

What's New on the Shelf?

I haven't done any shopping since last Monday. At Dollar Tree, I bought a science fiction book Luna: Wolf Moon, written by Ian McDonald, which I forgot to take a photo of. The thrift store had another $1 bag of books sale, in which I picked up four hardbacks and four paperbacks. As you can see in the above photo, one of these books is Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales (a Canterbury Edition).

The other three hardbacks are The Annals of HeeChee by Frederik Pohl, One Summer by David Baldacci, and Jubal Sackett by Louis L'Amour.

Lastly, the paperbacks are all by Brad Thor: The Lions of Lucerne, Foreign Influence, Path of the Assassin, and The First Commandment. There is one repeat for me here, Foreign Influence. I didn't realize I had a copy until I got home, though the other one has a different cover.

Yep—I bought Star Trek: Captain's Peril for 99 cents on Kindle. For a few days, TekLords and Tek Vengeance, both "written" by William Shatner (actually penned by Ron Goulart), were on sale for $1.99 each, so I grabbed them. I also grabbed Black Ice by Brad Thor for $1.99.
