[Review] — Star Trek: Prodigy: Supernova by Robb Pearlman

Do you get frustrated when your plans go through for any reason? I had meant to write a review for Star Trek: Prodigy: Supernova this past Saturday, but due to an unexpected cold that sneaked up on me, I postponed it until today. I reread this morning while drinking coffee after realizing my poor recollection. (FYI: I first read the book over a month ago.)

Robb Pearlman's Star Trek: Prodigy: Supernova (Available to buy on paperback.) is the second book based on the Nickelodeon animated series that airs on Paramount+. It's an adaptation of the same-named video game; don't take my word for it; I've never played it.

The story goes as follows: The Protostar proceeds on a rescue mission after discovering a message for help within Gwyn's doll, which she received in the first book, A Dangerous Trade. The crew becomes divided after the Protostar crashes into a strange star system. Dal and Gwyn must work together to recover their missing crewmates. They don't have much time because the nearest star gets destabilized and is on the verge of exploding. Soon, Dal and Gwyn discover malevolent droids, resembling the Watchers from Tars Lamora, patrolling the region. How will Dal and Gwyn tackle this horror from their history... and avoid a future explosion?

Supernova tops A Dangerous Trade due to its faster speed and more action scenes. The plot plays out just how it should, like an episode of Star Trek: Prodigy. Younger fans of the series will enjoy reading about their favorite characters on another mission, while older fans will enjoy it simply because it's Star Trek; it's goofier, yes, but it's still a fun read. —★★★★★
