What Am I Currently Reading?
Due to my busy week, I didn't get a chance to read until Wednesday, when I was in the laundromat. I had to use their dryer to finish drying towels because the heating element in my dryer had failed the previous evening. I had intended to bring a book but forgot it when I left the house. So I hurried into the nearby Dollar General to get an energy drink and The Saboteur by Andrew Gross, a $3 paperback. Normally, I wouldn't read a WWII novel, but I've read most of the author's books with James Patterson, so I figured I'd give it a shot. So far, I've read 84 pages, and it's not shabby. I'll pick it back up as soon as I've finished reading The House at the End of the World by Dean Koontz. I've read about 69% of it; after I'm done, I'll write my review on Tuesday.
The House of Wolves, the most recent novel by James Patterson, has been difficult for me to obtain. I asked for an ARC, but I never got one. I looked for the book in stores but was unsuccessful. I was about to place an online order when I realized how much I disliked Patteron's last collaboration with Mike Lupica. I then unexpectedly discovered it in the library. How come I was flabbergasted? 1. It takes a long time for new titles to arrive at my library. 2. Since the book is new, I reasoned that if the library had purchased it, it would already be out on loan. Luckily, I found a copy. I checked it out along with Clive Cussler's Hellburner by Mike Maden. After I finish reading The Saboteur, I'll start reading these novels.

What's in the Mailbox?
My latest eBay buy, The Galactic Whirlpool by David Gerrold, arrived in the mail on Friday. It's a Star Trek adventure, believe it or not. On the cover, you can just make out the U.S.S. Enterprise. To finish the "Bantam" 1970–1981, collection, I just need Death's Angel, which is already on its way to my mailbox. It is expected to arrive on the 28th.
What's New on the Shelf?
During my second visit, I bought the following books: paperback editions of The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum, The Bourne Supremacy by Robert Ludlum, Foreign Influence by Brad Thor, Invasion by Robin Cook, Firestorm by Iris Johansen, The Sunrise Lands by S. M. Stirling, Dies the Fire by S. M. Stirling, The Protector's War by S. M. Stirling, and A Meeting at Corvallis by S. M. Stirling; and a hardcover of Robert Ludlem's The Janson Command by Paul Garrison.
New titles on my Kindle are The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly and Alien: Into Charybdis by Alex White.

Oh wow I love those old school covers. Something about an old school SF cover can be so comforting. although some aew weird too. Ha.

A lot of imagination went into the old school covers, and yes, some of them can be a bit weird. The same thing goes for the '70s and '80s horror paperback covers. Occasionally, the covers have nothing to do with the stories.

It was first released under the name "Glasvinge" in Denmark. After reading the synopses on my first trip to Walmart this week, I was torn between buying A Face to Die For and The Butterfly House. I chose A Face to Die For, but subsequently regretted not also choosing The Butterfly House. Later, I returned and purchased it.

DeleteYou seem to have good luck with your Dollar Store when it comes to books! Every time I pop in one there's hardly anything there in terms of books. Let alone books I'd want to read.

I'm starting to believe no one else in my town is a reader but me. It seems like I'm the only one ever looking at books at Dollar Tree, and typically the same books are there on my next visit.

I was going into a James Patterson book hoping for the best, but lately I've been mostly disappointed with his works.
DeleteMan, you are the king of thrift book shopping! I'm amazed that you're still able to find so many books you want week after week - you'd think you'd have them all picked over by now! Have a terrific week.

Thanks for the compliment! I just have good luck that the only thrift store in my town carries the things the authors like. I wish there were more thrift stores, like a Goodwill, and used bookstores in my area.

Yay for the library! I have The House at the End of the World on my TBR. I haven't read any Dean Koontz in a long time.
