{Sunday Post}—The Cellar, Fright Night, and Stinetinglers

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

Merry Christmas!

  • This week's Sunday Post was originally going to be skipped, but since I woke up at 4 AM and had nothing better to do, I've chosen to write it.

Star Trek Books

If my memory serves me well, I said last Sunday that I had purchased additional Star Trek novels from eBay. Two shipments out of three orders—arrived on Christmas Eve. The other shipment, which includes two books, appears to be in a bog, presumably due to the winter season and the holidays.

Three novels made up the first batch: Best Destiny by Diane Carey (The Original Series); A Singular Destiny by Keith R. DeCandido (Star Trek: Destiny mini-series); and Tales of the Dominion War (short story collection) edited by Keith D. DeCandido.

The second batch of books is Maximum Warp: Dead Zone and Maximum Warp: Forever Dark by Dave Galanter and Greg Brodeur (The Next Generation), Time for Yesterday by A.C. Crispin (The Original Series), Buried Age by Christopher Bennett (The Next Generation/The Lost Era), and Saratoga by Michael Jan Friedman (Deep Space Nine).

The rest are post-Nemesis TNG books: Death in Winter by Michael Jan Friedman; Resistance by J.M. Dillard; Before Dishonor by Peter David; Greater Than the Sun by Christopher L. Bennett; Titan: Sword of Damocles by Geoffrey Thorne; Indistinguishable From Magic by David A. McIntee; and Hearts and Minds by Dayton Ward.

What Am I Currently Reading?

Since I'm waiting on a few ARCs to arrive, I've finally got time for personal reading. First on my agenda is The Dominion War: Behind Enemy Lines by John Vornholt (The Next Generation)—I'm currently on page 90—followed by the other three books in the series.

What Did Santa Bring?

"Christmas" was on Christmas Eve for me, and I received a lot of books. First is the children's book Stinetinglers by R.L. Stine (a short story collection) and a Grogu bookmark.

I got an overload of C.J. Box novels—so many that I couldn't get them all in one photo. The titles are Back of Beyond, The Bitterroots, Endangered, Cold Wind, and Long Range.

The other C.J. Box books are Wolf Pack, The Disappeared, Stone Cold, and Dark Sky.

These three young adult books by Maren Stoffels were wrapped up together as a set. I was told the books were on sale for $14 via a Walmart Black Friday deal. The titles are Escape Room, Fright Night, and Room Service.

I also received another $14 set, this time by author Natasha Preston. The titles are The Lost, The Cellar, and The Cabin. I own three more books by this author but have yet to read them. And, yes, I checked, and they're different titles, so there are no duplicates.

Now, let's get to what I call the "repeats," or books I received as gifts—that I already own. First is Stephen King: A Complete Exploration of His Work, Life, and Influences by Bev Vincent, the same book a friend sent me a few weeks ago. It's a great book, so I am okay with having two, especially when the books aren't exactly the same. One copy is about 1/4 inch thicker because the pages are thicker. Yeah, it's a bit weird. My first thought—they must be different print runs, but I cannot find a print edition listing in either book.

The other two repeats are Gwendy's Magic Feather by Richard Chizmar and The Ninth Month by James Patterson and Richard DiLallo.

What's New on the Shelf?

Sometime during the week, I picked up Clive Cussler's Pirate by Robin Burcell at a Walmart.

I read Tom Clancy thrillers when I was a teenager, but I lost interest and got rid of all my books. I see his newer books in stores, written by other authors since Clancy is dead, and I now have a renewed interest in rereading the Jack Ryan books. At a thrift store, I picked up Executive Orders, The Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, and The Teeth of the Tiger.

The only new title on my Kindle is Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey.

  1. Ooh very nice haul! Lots of good books this Christmas! Lots of new to me ones too! The YA thrillers look really good! I know I was looking at them some time ago, but my toppling TBR pile held me back. Lol. Hope you enjoy all of your new reads!
