{Sunday Post} - After the Eclipse, Death of the Black Widow, and Last Looks

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Evening, Everyone!

  • I'm back! Well, I didn't go anywhere. I just skipped last week's post.
  • I'll be playing catch-up on reviews this week.
  • I'm glad there's only one episode of Star Trek: Picard: Season Two because it's poorly written.
  • I have high hopes for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Why? From looking at the trailer, there are actual spaceships in it.
  • The Kansas City Royals continue their losing streak. The only good news about a losing season is that maybe the new owners will fire the team's president, Dayton Moore, along with his college buddy/pitching coach Cal Eldred. One can only hope.

What Am I Reading?

I finally finished Terence Fisher: Master of Gothic Cinema by Tony Dalton. It's a fantastic biography, and I plan on writing a review for it soon. Currently, I'm on Chapter Fourteen (page 180) in A Relative Murder by Jude Deveraux. I'm planning on reading the rest of the book early tomorrow morning. Then I'll start reading Death of the Black Widow by James Patterson and J.D. Barker.

What's in the Mail?

At some point in time, RLJE Films sent me Last Looks on Blu-ray, which I haven't watched as of this writing. If everything pans out, I'll watch it sometime tomorrow. Grand Central Publishing sent over a copy of Death of the Black Widow by James Patterson and J.D. Barker. It's the first time I've received a requested title from GCP.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

Due to being sick, I didn't around to shopping until Saturday afternoon. I picked up two books at Dollar Tree - After the Eclipse by Fran Dorricott and Winter of the Gods by Jordanna Max Brodsky. Also, I found Miss Peregrine's Journal for Peculiar Children at the same store. It's just a tie-in blank journal for the Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series, which I need to finish reading.

Two or three weeks ago, I picked up two thrift store books - White Fire by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child and Turtle Recall: The Discworld Companion. . So Far by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Briggs.

New titles on my Kindle are How to Survive Your Visit To Earth by Shelia Sharp, Star Trek: TNG: Cold Equations books 1 - 3 (The Persistence of Memory, Silent Weapon, The Body Electric) by David Mack, and Star Trek: The Fall books 1- 5 (Revelation of Dust by David R. George III, The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack, A Ceremony of Losses by David Mack, The Poisoned Chalice by James Swallow, and Peaceable Kingdoms by Dayton Ward).

  1. Okay I didn't even know there was a Star trek Strange New Worlds series. That ... looks good! Is this the TOS timeframe?

Winter of the Gods was pretty good. I think I liked the first book better and never read the third, but I loved the concept.

    1. Star Trek: SNW is a spinoff of Discovery's second season, set before TOS. Anson Mount is playing Captain Pike, and Ethan Peck is playing Spock. Uhura, Dr. M'Benga, and Nurse Chapel are part of the crew. The series starts May 5th on Paramount+.

    2. I'm going to be all over this. I have not tried Discovery but this looks like I'd like it.
