{Sunday Post} - The Den, The Enemy, and The Ghost Clause

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

Thank you all for your kind comments in last week's post. I haven't had time to reply to any of them. My grandma's funeral was on Friday afternoon. There wasn't a traditional visitation, and the funeral was outside (graveside) in the freezing weather.

Yesterday, my mother and I picked up my grandmother's belongings at the nursing home. They had kindly boxed up everything for us. I didn't realize how much stuff my grandmother had in her room. I barely got everything into my mother's van. Then I had to load the boxes into my parents' garage. In the afternoon, we went through everything. Some stuff got tossed in the trash, and other things got reboxed and will get donated to Salvation Army. And everything else we'll be keeping.

What Am I Reading?

I haven't been in a big mood to read, though I did finish The Woman Beyond the Attic: The V.C. Andrews Story and read 39 pages of To Disguise the Truth by Jen Turano. That's all I got done. My reading plan for the week is to read To Disguise the Truth and Victoria Winters by Marilyn Ross (William Ross).

Recent Reviews

When I was book purging at the tail end of December, I noticed a few books had water damage from last year's 'basement flood.' The only book I cared about was Buffy the Vampire Slayer 3 (Carnival of Souls, One Thing or Your Mother, Blooded), which received the most damage. I bought another copy off of eBay, which arrived in the mail the day before my grandmother's death. I didn't get around to opening the package until this morning.

What's New On The Bookshelf?

I lost count of how many errands I had to make during the week. It seems like I had to pick up something for someone every day. On one of my trips to Dollar Tree, I noticed they finally got new books in stock. I was in a hurry, so I didn't have time to look through all the titles, but I did pick up The Twice-Haunted Man by Pricilla Royal and The Den by Abi Maxwell.

When it comes to Walmart, it's like a flip of a coin if they decide to stock their books section or not. I saw nothing new there, except for a reprint of The Enemy by Jack Reacher, the eighth Jack Reacher novel.

Two days later, I went back to Dollar Tree with the purpose to go through the new books, if they were still in stock. I picked up Delayed Rays of a Star by Amanda Lee Koe and Ghost Clause by Howard Norman.

FYI - All books at Dollar Tree are now $1.25 each.

There are several new titles on my Kindle - Thrones in Glass (8 books in 1) by Sarah J. Mass, Family Money by Chad Zunker, A Train to Moscow by Elena Gorokhova, Cursed edited by Marie O'Regan and Pual Kane, The Dead Hours of Night: Stories by Lisa Turtle, Star Trek: TNG: The Q Continuum (Signature Edition) by Greg Cox, Star Trek: TNG: Encounter at Farpoint by David Gerrold, Star Trek: TNG: Dragon's Honor by Greg Cox and Kij Johnson, Star Trek: Nemesis by J.M. Dillard, and Star Trek: Picard: The Last Best Hope by Una McCormack.

  1. I should peruse the magazine/ book section at Walmart, I always seem to breeze right by it.

    Victoria looks so delightfully Gothic.

It is hard when a grandparent passes- hope you are well.

  2. I'm sorry about your grandma.

We started watching Reacher last night. I had to remind myself to suspend my disbelief when 6 people were killed in about 4 days and the GBI wasn't in that small town like ASAP. And that the killings hadn't gone viral causing the governor to have press conference.

    1. Spoiler Alert - A F.B.I. character appears later in the series.

In the novels, Jack Reacher is more like an '80s action star, so, yeah, you have to suspend your disbelief with some things that happen.
