She tried once more to shout a warning, to shout anything, and then the wave was past her, rushing through the door, disappearing into the house behind her.

My Thoughts

For some unknown reason, I've been thinking about The Amityville Horror story. No, I'm not referring to the questionable events that happened to the Lutz family. It's the real-life DeFeo murders that have been on my mind. It boggles my mind how six people were shot with a rifle in the early morning hours without one neighbor hearing the gunshots. I stumbled upon the original 1979 on HBO Max and watched it last night. I saw it a few times during my childhood and was never a big fan of it. Let's say the film has aged quite a bit, and I struggled to get through the 2-hour movie. I prefer the 2005 remake over the original.

Anyway, I bought The Amityville Horror II by John G. Jones at a thrift store many years ago. I picked it last night and read the forward before going to bed. It's a sequel to the original novel by Jay Anson, which I read 20+ years ago from the library. From my understanding, the sequel is a continuation of the 1977 novel and a follow-up to the 1979 film. It has nothing to do with the prequel film The Amityville Horror II: The Possession. I must have a first-edition paperback because there is no disclaimer stating the author has fictionalized the story. There are many inaccuracies in the Forward from the real-life events, but the book is from 1982, so I need to ignore the mistakes and read it as is.

  1. A great series of books and films! This one is probably my favorite, actually. :-) Happy weekend!

  2. Good book, especially if you need something creepy to read while you are camping and can't sleep.
