{Random Rambling} - Anxiety, Fear of Dating, and Books

Hopefully, everyone is doing well on this fine afternoon. Yes, I said fine afternoon. The snow that fell from the sky yesterday morning is all melted, and the temperatures are in the 40s. I know what you're thinking. While many will consider the 40s to be cold, I believe it's nice. It's warm enough to ditch the coat and cool enough for a jacket.

I read a recent article on Texarkana Gazette about how online dating isn't back to normal because people are still reluctant to meet in fear of catching COVID-19, even if they are fully vaccinated. I agree and disagree with the article. Online dating has changed quite a bit in recent years thanks to easy access to video cameras on all smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Once you find someone you like on one of the many dating sites (such as Plenty of Fish, Meet Merseyside Singles, OkCupid, etc.), you can have a virtual date via Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom in the safety of your own home. Take your time and get to know someone by email, texting, and phone calls. Yeah, I know there's the fear of being catfished, but sometimes you have to leap of faith. Eventually, you can meet in a public setting and see how things click. Maybe it's just where I live, but everyone seems to back to living their normal lives, besides wearing facemasks. I don't see COVID-19 being a negative factor on whether or not you meet someone in person. If you want to meet someone, wear a mask, don't sit too close together, and don't hold hands. All you need to do is be safe!

Anyway, I was planning on writing reviews today but got sidetracked with a few errands (grocery shopping, etc.). I'm not an in-store shopping person because of my anxiety issues. I dislike going to the local Walmart store because nothing is ever in stock, which amps up my anxiety above normal. At least I calmed my nerves down afterward by drinking a Reign Inferno energy drink. (FYI: Yes, I drink way too much caffeine.)

Minus the errands, I haven't been up to too much this afternoon. While shopping, I stumbled upon the new children's book Dog Diaries: Ruffing It by James Patterson and Steven Butler. Everyone knows I collect James Patterson titles, even though he doesn't write his books, so it's no shock that I picked it up. It's a spinoff of the popular Middle School series. I wasn't even aware this title was on the horizon until I found it at Walmart. I almost picked up the new Shadow and Bone paperback release but put it back at the last second, and now I'm regretting it. The Netflix adaptation starts this Friday, and part of me is itching to read it. The local online library has the eBook, but there are 79 other people in line to read it. I'll be out and about on Saturday, so if the book is still at Walmart, I'll probably buy it.

Has anyone read the Shadow and Bone series? If so, please leave your spoiler-free thoughts down below in the comment section.
