Billy's Answer
I don’t care what an author’s race or sexual orientation is. I buy books based on either the author’s name, the cover, the genre, or the blurb. Over the years, I have read many vampire novels with LGBT themes.
John Saul is one of my favorite authors, and he happens to be gay. I stumbled upon his horror paperbacks during my teenage years. At the time, I knew nothing about the author, though when I did learn about his sexual orientation, it didn’t phase me one bit. I judge authors by their writing talents.
Recommendations? If you like vampire tales, then I would recommend The Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice. As for John Saul books, I would start with Suffer the Children or Nathaniel.
No, I don’t visit indie bookstores. I live in a small town with only a Walmart, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and a thrift store. If my town had a bookstore, then, yes, I would visit it. Now, I have ordered books online from indie publishers, such as Valancourt Books. No, I have never worked in a bookstore.

Yeah there were a lot of questions this week. Lol. I don't think I've ever really paid attention to an author's own sexual orientation and based that fact on whether I'll read their books or not. I just read whatever sounds interesting to me.

DeleteThere was a used bookstore in a nearby town, but it's probably closed because of the pandemic. Besides from that, the closest bookstore is Barnes & Noble and that's in the city.
Yeah, I don't really notice or pay attention to the author's personal life. And rep in books isn't a positive or negative to me.

DeleteDiversity in publication is certainly a hot topic at the moment. I don’t seek out specific diverse authors or books with diversity as their theme. I’m just looking for some good stories. However, as a lover of paranormal romance, diversity and the allegory of diversity is in EVERY book I read.

I totally agree what you said about authors, I feel the same.
