Probably by now everyone has heard of the action film series John Wick starring Keanu Reeves. The third film, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (R; 130 mins) was released to theatres back in May and took in over $321 million at the box office. The movie landed on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD yesterday from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. It's also available on Digital.

John Wick (played by Reeves) is a former assassin who comes out of retirement after some thugs murder his dog and steals his car. After John's vengeance was complete, he was dragged out of retirement again due to a blood marker (promise) which leads him to kill a member of the High Table (the shadowy international assassins' guild) at the New York City Continental. Killing anyone on "hollow ground" is a "no no" for the guild, so John is declared "excommunicado"with a $14 million bounty put on his head. And the bounty rises by the hour.

Chapter 3 picks up exactly where Chapter 2 ended, with an injured John trying to escape New York City but with assassins around every corner, he must fight his way out of the country. He heads to Casablanca to seek help from an ex-assassin Sofia (played by Halle Berry) in the attempt to find the Elder, the only person known to be above the High Table.

Meanwhile, the High Table sends an Adjudicator (played by Asia Kate Dillon) to New York City to clean house. She releases Winston (played by Ian McShane) of his duties as manager of the New York Continental Hotel and dethrones the Bowery King (played by Laurence Fishburne). Then she recruits a Japanese assassin, Zero (played by Mark Dacascos) to hunt down and kill John Wick!

DVD Special Features include:
  • Parabellum: Legacy of the High Table
  • Excommunicado
  • Theatrical Trailer #1
  • Theatrical Trailer #2
  • John Wick Hex Game Trailer
  • Behind the Scenes of John Wick Hex

Final Thoughts

John Wick was a movie that I kept hearing good thing about but I didn't around to watching it and Chapter 2 until this year. I don't know why I delayed watching the films considering the fact I had bought both movies on Black Friday in 2017. Anyway, the films are fast-paced shoot' em ups with entertaining action scenes.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum takes the action to a whole other level with amazing choreographed fights and great performances. However, just don't expect too much from the actual plot as it's pretty thin in this sequel; though the film does dive a bit deeper into the High Table lore.

The picture and sound qualities are pretty decent on the DVD. There are a few special features and a sneak peek at the new John Wick Hex game.

Overall, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum is another solid entry in the series with insane action scenes and another good performance by Keanu Reeves.

  1. Awesome. I haven't been able to watch chapter 3 yet but I'd watch anything with Keanu Reeves in it. :)
