Sunday Post / It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

I had planned on having my Sunday Post published yesterday, but my internet (a.k.a. Mediacom) was having a lot of issues  and I couldn't sign into my blog until this morning.

My maternal grandmother had hip surgery for a second time (Same hip!) last Monday. She was released from the hospital and sent back to the nursing home for "skilled nursing" on Thursday. The nurses couldn't figure out why the hospital released her so soon. It probably had something to so with the "big" snowstorm that we were supposed to have gotten. However, the snowstorm never occurred here!

What Am I Currently Reading?

I'm finally getting around to reading Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin! As I am writing this, I'm on page 504, which means I have about 200 pages left to read. I'll attempt to finish reading it today.

In the Mail

I received an ARC of The Silhouette Girl by V.C. Andrews (a.k.a. - the ghost writer). My late-grandmother was a huge V.C. Andrews fan; well, until she learned the ghost writer was a man (Andrew Neidermann). Then she quit reading any new V.C. Andrews' titles. I ended up with my grandmother's books after she learned I had read the Flowers in the Attics series, which I had bought at a thrift store. While the most recent ghost writer's entries haven't been that great, I still either request a review copy from the publisher or purchase the book myself. Pocket Books (an imprint of Simon & Schuster) has the been the publisher of the V.C. Andrews' books for many years. However, The Silhouette Girl will mark the first time a V.C. Andrews' title has been released by Gallery Books, which is also an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

Also, I'd received the Nutcracker and the Four Realms 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Walt Disney Home Entertainment, which was somewhat of a shock as I was told there only regular Blu-rays left for reviewers. I'll be reviewing the film sometime this week.

New On My Bookshelf

I'm not for sure what Walmart's problem is, but the local store hasn't stocked any new books this year. I was looking for James Patterson's newest book, Liar Liar, but they didn't get it in, which was odd because the store normally gets the author's books in stock. It probably had something to do with the bad weather two weekends ago. If the book doesn't come in this week, I'll probably just order it.

Despite Walmart's book section being slim pickings, I did find The Passage by Justin Cronin. The television adaptation started last Monday on Fox and it wasn't quite as bad as the advertisements made it out to be. The book is over 800 pages with small lettering, so I don't know when I'll get around to reading it. Plus, it's book one in a trilogy!

I have three new eBooks on my Kindle from NetGalley. The eBooks are: All In by Shelley Shepard Gray; The House of Secrets by Terry Lynn Thomas; and The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jamie Jo Wright.

  1. I hope your grandmother gets better soon. Funny you mentioned a snowstorm that never came because we got the same wind of that! Ironically, it did start to snow a little yesterday but only an inch or so.

Nice new reads and movies! Those are all new to me ones but I hope you enjoy your reading selections for this week!

    Here's my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!
