Since this is November, I'm 100% positive that all kids are back in school by now. I had originally planned on posting one more Back to School Read several weeks ago, but due to all the Halloween posts/articles that were scheduled, I had to delay my review for Laugh Out Loud until today!

Anyhow,  now available from JIMMY Patterson (an imprint of Little, Brown, and Company) is the "laugh out loud" middle grade book Laugh Out Loud by bestselling author James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein.

Laugh Out Loud is a fictional story of how a young Jimmy Patterson (aka James Patterson) created his own publishing company called "JIMMY." He's a big book lover and enjoys telling his own his stories. With the help from his friends Chris Grabbetts (aka Chris Grabenstein), Pierce, Maxine, and Steve, Jimmy goes on the quest to start his own book company.

Despite the fact Jimmy has "beyond the imagination" plans for his book company, he has major problems getting funding from his parents, teachers, and banks, but with his friends behind him, he attempts to self-publish his book, one page at a time.

Final Thoughts

While Laugh Out Loud is written for kids, adults (especially James Patterson fans) will enjoy reading this book, too. The co-authors, James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein, have kind of written themselves into the story, along with cameos from other characters from children's books written by Mr. Patterson. Yes, the story in this tale can be a bit silly, and a little childish (Hey, remember it's written for children!), but despite some flaws, the book is an entertaining read. Like most James Patterson's books, his main goal is to get children to read, and that's exactly what Laugh Out Loud accomplishes.

Overall, Laugh Out Loud is a well-written, fast-paced, and funny book that will appeal to both kids and adults. I especially liked all the illustrations by Jeff Ebbeler. The book would make an excellent gift for any reader this holiday season.
