DVD Review - Power Rangers Dino Charge: Hero

NOT RATED; 125 minutes; $14.98; Amazon

Now available on DVD from Lionsgate Home Entertainment is Saban's Power Rangers Dino Charge: Hero, featuring four exciting episodes from the 2015 season. As an added bonus it features the Christmas Special "Race to Rescue Christmas."

Loosely based on the Japanese Super Sentai series Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, Dino Charge debuted in early 2015 as the twenty-second season of the Power Rangers franchise. The main plot focused on a alien named Keeper scattering ten Energems across Earth 65 million years ago. Fast forward to the present day, where five new young adults, including a caveman, have been chosen by the energems to become the new Power Rangers to stop the alien bounty hunter Sledge and his evil minions from destroying Earth. Later during the season, an 800-year-old knight, Sir Ivan joins the team as the Gold Ranger.

The episodes on the single-disc "Hero" are the final episodes of the first Dino Charge season. The episodes are:

"World Famous! (In New Zealand)" - The Power Rangers heads to New Zealand to locate the purple energem before Sledge's latest monster finds it.

"Deep Down Under"  - Still in New Zealand, the Rangers are in a race against time to find the Plesio Zord before Sledge can get his hands on it.

"Wishing for a Hero" - The Rangers return to Amber Beach and immediately go on the hunt to find a suitable "hero" for the purple energem to bond with. However, their new mission is cut short when they must battle Sledge's newest henchman - Heckyl.

"One More Energem" - With both the red and purple energems in Sledge's possession, the Rangers must aboard Sledge's spaceship to retrieve them.

"Race to Rescue Christmas" - Christmas around the world is canceled after Poisandra steals Santa's tablet.

Final Thoughts: Instead of releasing the Christmas Special separately along with past holiday episodes, "Race to Rescue Christmas" is featured on the"Volume 5" DVD of the first Dino Charge season as an added bonus. The special is mostly a clip show, but it does features a few new scenes involving the "Santa Claus" plot.

The two episodes "World Famous! (In New Zealand)" and "Deep Down Under" are set in New Zealand, which is a bit funny as the series is filmed there. These episodes, as well as "Wishing for a Hero" and "One More Energem," have a continuous storyline about the purple energem.

Overall, I have enjoyed watching the Power Rangers Dino Charge: Hero DVD. All the episodes are action-packed with enough humor to keep both kids and adult fans entertained.
