Review - Hand Built Coffee Maker Kit

Cold or iced coffee isn't something that I don't normally drink very often, not unless I'm just too lazy to reheat the old coffee I had brewed earlier in the day.

Nevertheless, the idea of a Hand Built Coffee Maker intrigued me, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to review this product.

The Hand Built Coffee Maker Kit is basically just an ordinary Kerr wide-mouth glass jar with a lid that you use for canning. The only difference is that it comes with a 304 stainless steel mesh filter.

How do you make coffee with this?

All you have to do is fill the mesh filter with whatever amount of coffee you want to use (up to two cups), place the filter inside the mason jar, pour a desired amount of water into the jar, and tightly secure the lid. Then you need to patiently wait for the coffee to slowly brew, which takes between 6 to 24 hours.

Final Thoughts: The Hand Built Coffee Maker is very simple to use, though it does take several hours to brew. Cleaning it does takes some time as you need to try to knock the coffee grounds out of the filter and into the trash. There will a few grounds left in the filter. Yes, I can could easily rinse it out, but I would rather avoid getting coffee grounds down the drain. Taking a paper towel or a rag and try to clean the filter out that way seems to work best.

Besides from my nitpicking about the cleaning issue, I didn't find anything else wrong with the Hand Built Coffee Maker. The cold coffee drinks I have made from it have all tasted great. However, I do think the nearly $20 price tag for it is a little steep. I mean if you already own a Kerr or a Mason jar, then you the only thing you would need is some sort of filter to make your own cold coffee.

The #handbuiltcoffee can be purchased on Amazon.com.
