Review - The Berenstain Bears' The Caring and Sharing Treasury

160 pages; $10.99; Amazon
Now available in bookstores from ZonderKidz (a trademark of Zondervan) is The Berenstain Bears' Caring and Sharing Treasury by Jan & Mike Berenstain, featuring 5 books in 1. Sadly, the original husband & wife duo authors, Stan and Jan, have both passed away, but their son Mike has taken over the writing and illustrating the franchise.

The 5 titles featured in this book are:

"Jobs Around Town" - Brother and Sister walk around Bear Country pointing out the different occupations around town. They both ponder about what they want to do when they grow up.

"Get Involved" - Brother and Sister are both part of the Cub Club at the Chapel in the Woods, where they participate in the different activities. Later, when a flood threatens Uncle Ned and Aunt Min's home, the cubs volunteer to help them.

"Love Their Neighbors" - The entire Bear family learns a valuable lesson about loving thy neighbor and not judging people by the way the dress.

"Gossip Gang" - Sister has always enjoyed gossiping about other students with her best pals, Lizzy and Suzie. However, Sister learns a lesson about not gossiping when she overhears her friends talking about her behind her back.

"And The Biggest Brag" - Brother and Sister Bear love to brag about anything and everything, which eventually leads them to learn a life lesson from Grizzly Gramps.

Final Thoughts: If you have read any of the latest Berenstain Bears titles, then you would haved noticed that the books now have Christian themes, along with a few Bible verses. The first story in this book is "Jobs Around Town," which is a new version of the 1987 release called "On the Job," the only difference is that Mike Berenstain has added a few religious lines as well as a few Bible verses. I remember reading this book when I was elementary school and I'm a little disappointed that the text has been changed.

The only other title in this release that I have read before is "And The Biggest Brag," which is a cute story up until the very end. To me, there was no conclusion to it.

There other three titles ("Gossip Gang," "Love Their Neighbors," and "Get Involved") are all well-written stories with cute illustrations.

Overall, despite some nitpicking, I still enjoyed reading The Berenstain Bears' The Caring and Sharing Treasury.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
