Book Description:

With refreshing candor, Sounds Like Me reveals Sara Bareilles, the artist—and the woman—on songwriting, soul searching, and what’s discovered along the way.

Sara Bareilles shares the joys and the struggles that come with creating great work, all while staying true to yourself. Imbued with humor and marked by Sara’s confessional writing style, this collection tells the inside story behind some of her most popular songs. Most recently known for her chart-topper “Brave,” Sara first broke through in 2007 with her multi-platinum single “Love Song.” She has released five albums that have sold 2.5 million copies and spawned several hits. More than a privileged view inside the experience of a remarkable musical talent—this is a moving tribute to the universal search for growth, healing, and self-acceptance.

About the Author:

Sara Bareilles is a five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer, songwriter, and musician. Known for her warm, intimate voice and naturally melodic songs, the Eureka, CA, native has released five albums, including 2013’s critically acclaimed The Blessed Unrest. She lives in New York City.

Billy's Thoughts:

Wow! The days are really flying by this month; I mean, here I am writing the last few posts for this year's Holiday Gift Guide. Being a music fan, I had to have at least one thing on the "gift guide" that was music related.

Despite my love for music, I don't watch MTV or VH1 and I hardly ever listen to the radio, so the only the way I learn about new singers is by stumbling upon music videos on YouTube, which is where I found a video of "King of Anything" by Sara Bareilles during the summer. I had heard of her before, but this was the first song that I listened to by her. Let's just say that I quickly became a fan of Sara's music.

Besides from being a songwriter and singer, Sara is also the author of "Sounds Like Me: My Life (so far) in Song, which is now available to buy in bookstores. Part autobiography, part collection of personal essays, Sara shares stories that inspired her to write her most popular songs. Each of the eight chapters featured in the book are written around one song - Once Upon Another Time, Gravity, Love Song, Beautiful Girl, Red, Many the Miles, Brave and She Used To Be Mine.

From her childhood in Eureka, California, to her early days singing in bars & clubs, to composing the songs for the Broadway version of the 2007 feature film "Waitress," Sara confesses the stories that her fans want to hear.

While I'm usually not a big fan of autobiographies, I was instantly hooked by Sara's voice from the get go; leading me to read the first 100 pages in one sitting. Her writings never felt forced, but it instead her words feels genuine and heartfelt. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Songs. The book would make a great Christmas gift for any fan of Sara Bareilles' music.
