I'm not the biggest fan of travel/journey documentaries. However, I offered a Blu-ray copy of Extreme Treks: Sacred Mountains of China: Season 1 earlier in the fall and I thought I would try it out. Unfortunately, a few things came up and the Blu-ray got shoved aside for awhile, well, until I finally squeezed in some time to watch the four 45-minute episodes last week.
The series centers on Ryan Pyle, a documentary photographer, who ventures into the Western part of China to explore the Sacred Mountains that are located in the remote provinces of Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan and Yunnan.
Though I've never been to China, I have heard about the Sacred Mountains that are there. Each episode focuses on one mountain - Mount Kailash, Minya Konka, Amne Machin and Kawa Karpo. Kyle Pyle is full of energy and trekked his way, along with the film crew, through the cold and sometimes rocky environment.
Overall, I found Extreme Treks: Sacred Mountains of China: Season 1 to be very interesting. The cinematography is wonderfully done and showcases the beautiful landscapes in China. It would make a great Christmas gift for anyone that likes outdoor adventures.
