Review:
I've been trying to catch up on a few books that have been piled up on my desk collecting dust for several months. One of these books happens to be Gathering Shadows by Nancy Mehl, an author that I instantly liked ever since I read the first book in the Road to Kingdom series. Plus, I do enjoy the fact that author lives in my home state of Missouri.
Gathering Shadows centers on a St. Louis reporter, Wynter Evans, who stumbles upon a photo of a boy that resembles her brother, Ryan, who went missing at nine-years-old. Being a reporter, she has a few detective skills up her sleeves and with a little research she is able to find out that the picture was taken in the small Mennonite community of Sanctuary, Missouri.
Upon arriving in Sanctuary, Wynter teams up the town's young mayor, Rueben King, in the pursuit of identifying the young boy in the photo. She never imagined that she would unravel a dark family mystery that was meant to stay buried.
First off I would like to make a quick comment about that the model on the cover art reminds me of a young Naomi Watts. Speaking of covers, at first glance at this one I would have never thought this would have a Mennonite plot. Similar to the author's other works, she cleverly crafts an intriguing mystery with a religious theme along with interesting characters. Overall, I thought Gathering Shadows is an insanely well-written novel with plenty of twists & turns! I can't wait until the second novel is released next year.

About the Author:
Nancy Mehl lives in Festus, Missouri, with her husband Norman, and her very active puggle, Watson. She's authored fifteen books and is currently at work on a new romantic suspense series for Bethany House Publishing.
All of Nancy's novels have an added touch - something for your spirit as well as your soul. "I welcome the opportunity to share my faith through my writing," Nancy says. "It's a part of me and of everything I think or do. God is number one in my life. I wouldn't be writing at all if I didn't believe that this is what He's called me to do. I hope everyone who reads my books will walk away with the most important message I can give them: God is good, and He loves you more than you can imagine. He has a good plan especially for your life, and there is nothing you can't overcome with His help."
