Review:

Arriving on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, DVD and On-Demand on Tuesday December 9, 2014 is Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The film is directed by James Gunn (Movie 43, Super) and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker and Karen Gillan. Bonus Features include Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes, Making-of Featurettes, Exclusive Look at "Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron," a Gag Reel and an Audio Commentary.

Guardians of the Galaxy was originally created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan, which made its debuted at comic book stands with the 1969 issue of Marvel Super-Heroes #18! The second incarnation of Guardians of the Galaxy debuted in 2008 from creators  Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, which is what the 2014 feature film is based on.

The film version centers on a young Peter Quill being abducted by a group of Space Pirates. Fast-forward 26 years, where Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) now goes by the name Star Lord and finds himself in a bit of trouble after trying to steal an orb that Korath (played by Djimon Hounsou) wants for his leader, Ronan the Accuser. He is tossed in a Nova Empire prison, along with the bounty hunters - the genetically engineered raccoon Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and the tree-like humanoid Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) - and Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana), the assassin that tried to kill him.

Star Lord forms an unlikely alliance with Rocket, Groot, Gamora and the inmate, Drax the Destroyer (played by Dave Bautista). They escape from the prison and hop on Star Lord's "Milano" spaceship in the attempt to sale the orb, which contains the Infinity Stone, to a collector, Taneleer Tivan (played by Benicio del Toro), but they end up losing the orb to Ronan the Accuser (played by Lee Pace) and his army. Ronan take possession of Infinity Stone's power, making him stronger and more powerful than anyone in the galaxy. It is up to Star Lord and his new friends to save the day...well, the galaxy.

Though I have only read a handful of comics during my lifetime, I have become of fan of the Marvel Universe films in recent years. That being said, I had low exceptions for Guardians of the Galaxy, as it looked a little silly from the previews. Nevertheless, since it is Marvel, I thought I would give the movie a chance and I'm glad that I did as it turns out that the movie is actually fun to watch. Don't get me wrong, a talking raccoon and a tree is still a bit silly, but Rocket (the raccoon) is the scene stealer for the entire movie. Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy is a fast-paced action-packed space adventure that the entire family can enjoy watching together.
