Review:

With Halloween officially over, I'm almost sure that many department stores will begin rolling out their holiday decorations this next week. However, if you have been in a bookstore lately, then you probably know that several Christmas titles have already been released, including the novella A Robertson Family Christmas by Miss Kay Robertson with Travis Thrasher.

You might have heard of the author's name before as she appears on the A&E's hit reality series Duck Dynasty. Over the years, Miss Kay has been asked what it would be like to spend a few days with the Robertson family, which eventually lead to the idea for this Christmas novella.

A Robertson Family Christmas centers on the Robertson family running a contest where the winner will get to spend the Christmas with them. Stacy Clarke, a struggling divorced mother, hears about the contest and decides to sign up her teenage son, Hunter. She didn't actually think he would be win, so she was shocked when she gets the confirmation email, but deep down she hopes this experience will change his negative attitude.

Hunter wasn't as thrilled as his mother was about the contest. He has no other choice in the matter, so he has to pack his bags and leave his home in Illinois and fly to West Monroe, Louisiana to live with complete strangers. Upon arriving at the Robertson home, he quickly learns to keep the television's volume low at night because even Jason Bourne can't help from getting into trouble. The bearded Robertson men take Hunter hunting, which doesn't turn out well for the teenager, and later finds himself in the kitchen with Miss Kay learning how to cook. Hunter must find away a way to deal with his unwanted anger and learn the real meaning of Christmas, as well as what the world "family" really means to him.

This is a fast little read that I read in one sitting a few nights ago. Originally, I was only going to read a few pages before going to bed, but I got hooked into the story and finished reading it. The plot is simple with a troubled teen spending Christmas with the Robertson clan and of course the teen learns a few lessons about life, faith and caring for others. Overall, A Robertson Family Christmas is a cute heartfelt novella that plays out like a Hallmark movie.
