Review:

Amish fiction has been one of my favorite book genres for the past ten years, so I was excited to read Shelly Shepard Gray's second book in The Days of Redemption series, which I received free of charge from Litfuse Publicity and Avon Inspire in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Living in the Amish community of Pinecraft, Florida, has been difficult for Amanda Yoder as her husband, Wesley, died nearly two years ago, leaving her to raise their daughter, Regina, by herself. She has no intention of marring again, until she meets the neighbor's brother, Roman Keim.

Roman isn't from Pinecraft. He's actually on vacation from his Amish life in Ohio, where a family secret became public causing a bit of an uproar in the community. Soon after arriving in Florida, Roman starts noticing the lovely next door neighbor, Amanda, whom he has heard is a widower.

At first Amanda tries to distant herself as much as possible from Roman, but eventually takes an interest in him. Sadly, she knows that their relationship can be nothing but friendship as Roman is only there for one week.

I've read a few other series by the author, but for some reason I didn't hear about the first book in the series, Daybreak, being released. I don't like to jump into book two without reading book one, but Ray of Light is basically a standalone sequel, though it does mention previous events involving the Keim's family secrets. Most of the Amish books I have read are either set in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kansas, or Missouri, but this is the first book I have read that has an Amish community in Florida. The author does a good job creating likeable characters and a realistic plot, which is lacking in some recent romance novels. Overall, I enjoyed reading Ray of Light. I just purchased the first book, so hopefully I'll have it read before the final book, Eventide, is released.
