An Interview with author Jamie Salisbury

What or whom inspired you to become a writer?

I have always written, but I took a creative writing class in high school. I had the most awesome teacher. She was great at inspiration and mentor to her students. She had some “out there” sort of ideas for the time (write something about a song on an album of her choosing). It had to be a short story if I recall correctly. In her eyes no one was a bad writer. She encouraged me to pursue the craft further.

What were your writing habits while writing Timeless Sojourn?

They stayed pretty much the same. I try to do all my social media, pr work, emails in the morning and spend the afternoons and evenings writing. This way if I’m really on to something in the afternoon I don’t have to quit I can continue to write well into the night.

How did you come up with the plot?

I thought it was something that needed to be written and it’s sort of autobiographical in parts. Which ones, I’ll never tell! But I spent a lot of time handwriting ideas, etc. on paper and then one afternoon I just flew with it. Once I started it, the story just evolved.

What is your favorite part in Timeless Sojourn?

Probably where the main female character, Anne decides to cast aside her self doubt and look forward and accept whatever comes, rather than be chained by some of her past fears and experiences. She takes the big step and decides to live in the moment rather than in the fear of what could happen.

What was the hardest part to write?

The dialogue for some of the lesser characters; women gossiping. I found that hard but wanted it to sound authentic.

What character is the most/least like you, and in what ways?

Anne, the primary character is a lot like me Her struggles, decisions, how she deals with things at a time in her life she really shouldn’t have to.

The least like me – probably Margaret, Geoffrey’s (the main male character) sister. She is easily influenced and makes decisions without doing her research and fact checking.

What would your ideal career be, if you couldn’t be an author?

Hmmm, I’d probably go back into public relations because I did that and had a successful career at it. Only this time I’d have my own firm and branch out into new territories.

Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay attention to them, or let them influence your writing?

Of course I read them! Getting reviews is hard unless you’re on the NYT bestsellers list! But that’s all I do. I read them. If there is a negative I try to learn from it and if it’s a technical negative, then I try to fix it. I don’t let reviews influence my writing.

Which question are you most sick of answering in interviews?

LOL! I can’t think of one. Most all the questions put to me are good, thought provoking ones.

Do you have any other books in the works?

Oh yes. I have the sequel to Tudor Rose in the works along with about four other projects that I’m either writing or are in some form of research. I hope to have the sequel to Tudor Rose out by the end of 2012.

Jamie will be giving away a $25 Amazon GC to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour. The tour dates can be found here: http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2012/05/virtual-book-tour-timeless-sojourn-by.html

About the Author:

Jamie Salisbury cannot imagine a time when she did not write. A skill that has served her well throughout her professional career. Public relations in and around the entertainment industry, photography, editing, and special event planning all elevated her passion for writing.

An avid reader of histories, biographies, and romance, it's only natural that part of the products of her pen are historical romances featuring characters so authentic they spring forth from the page and shake the reader's hand. Many of her teen years were spent in Chile, but she and her family were forced out of the country when the political climate demanded it.

Taking the plunge to take her writing professional came as a result of a series of foot surgeries that left her with a lot of time on her hands. Unable to walk great distances at the time, she started writing as a way to pass the time. Her experiences of how dramatically her life had changed at first. Then the new world of e-publishing inspired her to digitally publish her first novel, Perpetual Love, rather than relegate it to the dreaded drawer. She couldn't be happier with her decision to grab the publishing industry by the shoulders and force it to pay attention to all she has to offer.

Two more novels have followed: Blood Lust and Tudor Rose, with more to follow soon.
Jamie now lives outside of Atlanta, but the love for travel has never abandoned her. Adventure, exploration, and intrigue permeate her prose to the core.

In those few moments of the day when she's not writing or thinking about writing, she finds knitting a way to relax and unwind. Other interests include photography, equestrianism, reading, and of course traveling.

Jamie hopes her writing will entertain, enlighten, and inspire others to pick up the pen and pursue their own dreams. She loves to be contacted by readers, writers, and history buffs.

You'll get sick of me soon xD
Don't you just love it when you're planning for a book and everything just falls into place? It's the best feeling ever :P
I'm a little like you, where the 'do things in the morning' come in, though my mornings are probably later than yours!
I get up, get sorted, put the guinea pigs out and then check my emails before I write...But oh what a distraction the internet can be...I find myself constantly checking my emails xD

I LOVED Timeless Sojourn. It was an amazing book written by an amazing author and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

  2. I am an older woman who married a younger man back many decades ago when it wasn't nearly as acceptable as it is today (thank goodness times are changing!). Your book sounds fantastic.

  4. Thanks Momjane! Yes, I'm glad to see that the older woman/younger man is becoming more socially acceptable - I'm also hoping that Timeless Sojourn will show that it's not the "cougar" (and I hate that term) relationship that is so stereotypical.
Hope you get a chance to read Timeless Sojourn and enjoy it.
