Becca Anderson has the chance to boost her career when she is invited to be the newest speaker at the Christian Women’s Conference. Her father-in-law suddenly dies, leaving her future in jeopardy as her husband feels he needs to pastor his father’s church in the small town of Hope Springs, NC.

Widowed Janelle Evans has lost her faith and is somewhat dreading going back to Hope Springs for a family reunion as this is the first without her late husband. Soon after arriving, she is reintroduced to the Sanders clan and learns that her grandmother is sick, resulting in her deciding to stay longer than she had planned.

Janelle’s Cousin Stephanie Landon is married to a doctor in St. Louis, and comes to the family reunion too. She also decides to stay a bit longer and help Janelle care for their grandmother.

From my understanding some of the characters in Hope Springs appear in other books written by Kim Cash Tate, which was somewhat confusing for me to figure out who was who. Normally, the readers are introduced to the characters, but here I felt like they were just thrown in. The plot centers around three women, Janelle, Stephanie and Becca, whom are returning to the small town life in Hope Springs on Christmastime. I find it odd that a book set around the holidays is released during the summer and not in the late fall.

I eventually became interested in these women’s lives as the author does a wonderful job with the narration. This is the first Christian modern themed book that I have read that involves a white church and a black church, and how the members have realistic problems. There is some preaching throughout, but none that I felt was forced or uncalled for. Overall, I enjoyed reading Hope Springs as it was a breath of fresh air.
