Julia Sullivan is a travel writer for the Getaway Magazine and she is given an assignment that takes her to Eufaula, Alabama to cover the annual Winter Pilgrimage event. Julia is use to traveling to exotic locations and going to Alabama doesn’t thrill her at all, but she doesn’t have a choice. Her new boss isn’t fond of her and to keep her job she has take the assignment.

She is surprised to see how friendly the Eufaula locals are and takes in the Southern life, meeting quirky characters such as Shug, PD, Roger, and many others. Julia is emotionally drained for her mother’s passing and her battered relationship with her father. This simple assignment is turning into more of a life changing event, as she deals with her personal problems and unexpectedly finds romance.

At first glance at the plot, a New Yorker visiting a small southern town, I thought to me “This has been done to death.” As I started into the first chapter, I became interested in Julia’s unorganized life. I don’t blame her new boss for wanting to fire her, as she is never on time with her assignments, but everyone deserves a chance for redemption. The Winter Pilgrimage is an actual event held in Eufaula (Sounds like a village from a Dracula movie), Alabama, which gives the story a more realistic feel to it. I enjoyed all the supporting characters as they added a charming appeal to the plot. Of course this is a romance novel, so some sparks fly between Julia and Shug (What a name!). By the time I finished reading the last page, I found myself actually liking the “sweetness” of Dancing Naked in Dixie. I recommend the book to all romance readers!

  2. Hi Billy ! Am drinking my coffee and admiring your tagline ... I prefer to think of coffee as a vitamin! LOL We have a local coffeeshop here in Mobile -- you can pick up a t-shirt that says "Given Enough Coffee, I could rule the World." Love it :)

Thank you so much for reading Dancing Naked in Dixie ... and so I'm glad that you found it to be sweet and satisfying! As a New York (Upstate) transplant to the Deep South ... I wanted to share some of my own wild and wonderful experiences through Julia's eyes. I really appreciate the shout - out on your blog and your candid review of my novel! All the best, Lauren

  8. Thank you Catherine ! A librarian friend of mine agrees! I asked her what everyone is checking out these days ... and although Shades of Gray and The Hunger Games are still holding strong, she told me that (overall) not many people want dark and heavy in the summertime :)
