Lisabeth Lewis is your typical teenager. Her parents are divorced, she has a great boyfriends and friends, but she is hiding a secret. Lisabeth has an eating a disorder.
Late one night, she decides to end her life by taking an overdose on her mother’s anti-depression pills, but suicide attempt does not work. That night she meets Death.
Death had saved her from killing herself the previous night. Lisabeth must now become a Rider and take over the role of Famine. She will ride the black horse named Midnight and bring destruction and poverty to the world.
I read Hunger in one sitting. It is a haunting tale that stays in your mind longer after you are finished with the last page. The author has wonderfully blended in supernatural with a realistic problem in society today - eating disorders. The dialogue, thoughts and actions the teenager characters make seem more believable than other young adult’s novels on the market. This is a great read, and now one of my favorite books.
