Review - The Inheritance

Bethany House; 432 pages; Buy Link; Blog Tour
There's nothing better to do on a rainy Spring day than to read an intriguing novel. Well, at least that's what I did over the weekend, when I took the time to sit down and read The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, the author of over 70 titles. My grandmother has read many of the author's books, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to review this one.

Set on the Shetland Islands, The Inheritance centers on the death of the Macgregor Tulloch, the patriarch of the clan of Whales Reef, which sends the community into chaos as he had no will. Everyone thought Tulloch would leave everything to his grandnephew, but with no will in sight that is never going to happen. Tulloch's estate covers almost the entire island, and David's cousin Hardy is more than willing to to claim it as his own.

This is where Loni Ford comes into the story, a woman who has found success working for an investment firm in Washington, D.C.. Out of nowhere she receives a letter from Scotland that will forever change her
life.

Final Thoughts: I have ancestors from Scotland, so any book set there automatically gets my attention. After reading The Inheritance, I can easily see why Michael Phillips is so popular as he uses detailed descriptions throughout his writings. The plot in this book is a little cliched, but thanks to the author's writing chops, the story was never predictable. All the characters have plenty of depth to them. Overall, I thought The Inheritance was a surprisingly wonderful read from beginning to end.

About the Author: Michael Phillips is a bestselling author with more than 70 of his own titles. In addition, he has served as editor/redactor of nearly 30 more books. He is known as the man responsible for the reawakened interest in George MacDonald of the last 30 years. In addition to the MacDonald titles adapted/edited for today's reader, his publishing efforts in bringing back full-length quality facsimile editions also spawned renewed interest in MacDonald's original work. Michael and his wife, Judy, spend time each year in Scotland but make their home near Sacramento, California.
