Review:

Though I consider myself a cartoon buff, there are many new animation series that slip by my radar screen, including Slugterra, which is a Canadian animated series that airs on Disney XD. Shout! Factory has been releasing the series on DVD, which the newest volume titled Slugterra: Heroes Of The Underground arrives in stores tomorrow, featuring five exciting episodes. Bonus features are "Drawing Your Own Slugs!"and Slugisodes.

The series centers on Eli Shane, a young man who is determined to become the best slug-slinging hero anybody has ever seen on Slugteera. Along with his friends (Pronto Geronimole, Beatrice "Trixie" Sting and Kord Zane), Eli  Shane goes after the dreadful Dr. Thaddius Blakk and his goons, slugs and ghouls.

The five episodes on the single-disc DVD are:
  1. Snowdance - What starts out as watching a simple movie at a drive-in, ends up with Shane and the gang tracking down an Ice ogre.
  2. Inheritance - Shane and the gang head for Forgesmelter in Magma Caverns to search for treasure.
  3. A Distant Shore - Shane must stop an adventurer from heading off to find the Burning World.
  4. The Journey Home - Shane must duel with a food craving monster, Much.
  5. Roboslugs - Shane must stop a mad scientist and his gang of roboslugs.
Slugterra is action-sci-fi adventure animated series with a blend of humor, reminding me of some of my favorite cartoons from the '80s; a time when cartoons were action-oriented. Slugterra is aimed for boys, but some girls may like the female character, Beatrice "Trixie" Sting. I had never heard of the series until I reviewed the DVD last week. The episodes have great animation, interesting plots and plenty of action to keep the viewers attention. The five episodes featured on this release are from Season 2. Overall, Slugterra: Heroes Of The Underground has five exciting adventures that both kids and adults will enjoy watching.
