Midnight Horror Review: Shark Bait (6 Killer Shark Films)

*This is a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Mill Creek Entertainment; Amazon
To celebrate Shark Week, I'm featuring a review for the recently released Shark Bait DVD ($19.98; 10 hrs and 13 mins) from Mill Creek Entertainment, which features 6 killer SyFy films - Ghost Shark, Mississippi River Sharks, Ozark Sharks, Santa Jaws, Swamp Shark, and Zombie Shark

There's also a bonus film - Alligator Alley. And, yes, I'm well aware these movies destroys the purpose of Shark Week.

The two-disc set comes with a Digital code that can only be redeemed on Mill Creek Entertainment's new streaming service - Movie SPREE - which is available as an app on Roku Channel Store, Amazon Appstore (Fire TV), Google Play, and the Apple App Store. You can also redeem the Digital code on movieSPREE.com/redeem.

Ghost Shark (2013; Not Rated; 87 mins) - Directed by Griff Furst, this supernatural film has a shark coming back from the dead as a vengeful spirit and it will kill anybody who is near any type of water source, even a Slip 'N Slide. The cast include Richard Moll and Mackenzie Rosman.

Mississippi River Sharks (2017; Not Rated; 86 mins) - Directed by Misty Talley, the film centers around a group of sharks attacking a "fish rodeo" on the Mississippi River. The cast includes Cassie Steele and Jason London.

Ozark Sharks (2016; Not Rated; 86 mins) - Directed by Misty Talley, the film centers around a family traveling to the Ozarks for a simple vacation, but, sadly, they're being stalked about a group of bull sharks. The movie stars Allisyn Ashley Arm, Michael Papajohn, Ross Britz, and Ashton Leigh.

Santa Jaws (2018; Not Rated; 88 mins) - Directed by Misty Talley, this holiday tale centers around a grounded aspiring comic book artist teenager who uses an antique pen to draw (and imagine) a great white shark wearing a Santa's hat to get revenge on everyone he's mad at. The shark comes to life and kills anybody who has the Christmas spirit. The movie stars Reid Miller, Jim Klock, and Ritchie Montgomery.

Sunday Post / It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Good Evening, Everyone!

I bet everyone thought I was going to skip this week's Sunday Post and It's Monday! What Are You Reading? - right?

I meant to have this post published on Sunday morning but due to computer issues I couldn't work on it until tonight. It all started early (very early) on Saturday morning when I attempted to listen to a music CD while writing a review. My laptop's DVD drive failed to read the CD, as well every other CD I had nearby. Also, the drive couldn't read DVDs as well, which was odd as I just played a movie on Wednesday with no issues. It turns out there was a new Windows 10 update. I ran the update and with my bad luck there was an error with the installment. After doing a bit of research on the issue, I backed up all my files and reset the computer. The good news is I was able to install the windows update after the reset was complete. The bad news is the DVD drive still cannot read CDs but I can now play select DVDs. I would say the drive's laser is cracked. I had an old HP external DVD drive that I got out of storage that I'll be using. My laptop's getting some age on it, so it would probably be a waste of money for me to have the DVD drive fixed. I would rather put that money back for a brand new laptop.

FYI: I do have a newer desktop computer. I just don't use it very often.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I was able to do a little reading on IT last week. I'm currently on page 383. However, I'm going to have to put IT aside for a day or two so I can read Understanding Miss Cecilia by Carolyn Miller. I had 100% forgotten I had signed up to review the title for a book tour that began today. I have until August 4th to post my review. I'll start reading it tomorrow!

Recent Reviews

Between having a cold sore and having to work my laptop, I didn't post any new reviews last week.

To the left, a high board fence, perhaps once a neat white but now faded to a dull gray that almost matched the lowering sky, lurched drunkenly in and out of the dank shrubbery.

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

What Am I Currently Reading?

Last week was a bad week for me for reading. I had a bad case of dry eyes for several days which made it impossible for me to read. I felt better last night and ended up reading a few pages of Goosebumps SlappyWorld: The Dummy Meets The Mummy! by R.L. Stine. I finished the book early this morning. Then I read a few more pages of IT by Stephen King.

Midnight Horror Review: Hellboy (2019)

This is a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% mine.

AMAZON
I'm the only person in the world who believes Dark Horse's Hellboy is cursed! There have been three film adaptations - Hellboy (2004), Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), and Hellboy (2019) - and all of them have more or less flopped at the box office.

Why is this?

I have absolutely no clue! There are many die hard fans for both Mike Mignola's comics and Guillermo del Toro's films.

Hellboy's reboot/remake was released to theatres back in April with Neil Marshall in the director's chair and David Harbour taking over the half-demon. The film was executed by the mainstream critics and bombed at the box office. Plus, Avengers: Endgame coming out a few weeks later didn't help much either.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment is releasing Hellboy (R; 121 minutes) on 4K Ultra HD ($42.99), Blu-ray ($39.99), DVD ($29.99), and Digital HD on July 23rd. The film borrows bits and pieces from the comic books  Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt, The Storm and the Fury, and Hellboy in Mexico. It ignores the del Toro's movies and gives Hellboy a new origin tale.

The reboot begins with the half-demon Hellboy being sent to the English countryside to track and kill a trio of giants. However, things aren't exactly how they appear, resulting in Hellboy barely making it out alive. He quickly learns that the thought-to-be-dead sorceress"Blood Queen" Nimue (played by Milla Jovovich) has been brought back to life, piece by piece. Along side an Irish medium, Alice Monaghan (played by Sasha Lane), and a B.P.R.D. soldier, Ben Daimio (played by  Daniel Dae Kim), Hellboy is hell-bent on stopping Nimue and her army of demons from destroying the world.

Special Features include:
  • 4KUHD, Blu-ray & DVD:
    • Deleted Scenes
    • Previsualizations
  • Blu-ray Exclusive:
    • Tales of the Wild Hunt: Hellboy Reborn (3-Part Documentary)

Review - Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

AMAZON
There's probably many great books I've come across at one time or another in stores but I never picked them up based on their titles or covers. I recall seeing Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty at several Walmart stores when it was first published in 2014. However, the cover didn't appeal to me, so I never gave the title another thought. It wasn't until after I'd watched the HBO limited-series adaptation that I became interested in reading the novel.

Big Little Lies begins with a murder that occurred at the Pirriwee Public School's trivia night. Then the story quickly flashes back six months before the event. The plot mostly focuses on three different women - Madeline, Celeste, and Jane.

Madeline is a mother of three, with the oldest being from her first marriage. Chloe is the youngest who's about to start Kindergarten. Most mothers would be excited (and a bit scared) about their child starting school, but Madeline is more worried about having to deal with her ex-husband and his young wife, Bonnie, as their daughter, Skye, is about also going to be attending Kindergarten with Chole.

Celeste is an at-home mother of twin boys, Max and Josh, who will also be attending Kindergarten at Pirriwee. From everyone else's viewpoint, Celeste has the prefect life with the perfect husband, Perry, and their wonderful sons. However, what's unknown to the world is Perry is an abusive control freak who takes his anger out on Celeste.

Jane is the youngest of the three main characters. She's a single mother of one son, Ziggy, who wanted to start a new life by moving near the beach. Ziggy is also attending Kindergarten at Pirriwee. Jane has been keeping a dark secret about her son - Ziggy is a product of rape!

On the morning of the Kindergarten orientation, Jane befriends Madeline and Celeste, which is a good thing as she needs all the friends she can get after what happens next - Ziggy is accused of bulling another student, Amabella, who happens to the daughter of Renata Klein, a rich socialite who overreacts to just about everything.

The orientation incident begins a domino effect for these three women which comes to a collusion course during trivia night!
