DVD Review - Power Rangers Wild Force: The Complete Series

TV-Y7; 870 minutes; $19.97; Amazon; Shout! Factory
Now available on DVD from Shout! Factory is Power Rangers Wild Force: The Complete Series, a 5-disc set featuring all 40 episodes. There are no special features or bonus extras.

"Wild Force" is the 10th season of the Power Rangers franchise. It borrows costumes, monsters, zords and action scenes from the Japanese Super Sentai series Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger. The first half of the season aired on Fox Kids before Saban sold the franchise to Disney. The second half aired on ABC Family and was produced by BSV Entertainment (Disney/ABC-Television Group).

Originally airing in 2002, "Wild Force" centered Cole Evans (played by Ricardo Medina, Jr.), a young man who had spent several years living in the jungle. He leaves his tribe and makes his way to the small town of Turtle Cove. There he finds the Animarium, a magical flying island, where he accepts his destiny as the Red Wild Force Ranger.

Along with Taylor, the Yellow Ranger (played by Alyson Kiperman), Maxwell, the Blue Ranger (played by Phillip Jeanmarie), Alyssa, the White Ranger (played by Jessica Rey) and Daniel, the Black Ranger (played by Jack Guzman), Cole must lead the Rangers against the deadly Master Org and his army of minions, in the attempt to protect Animarium. A sixth ranger, Lunar Wolf Ranger (played by Phillip Andrew) was added the cast towards the middle of the season.

While "Wild Force" received mixed-reaction from fans, the season did mark the 10th Anniversary of the franchise, which was celebrated in the "Forever Red" episode. All the previous red rangers returned to help the Red Wild Force Ranger stop the Machine Army from digging up Lord Zedd's zord, Serpentera, which was buried on the moon.

Not Rated; 92 minutes; $14.98; Amazon
I'm sure Power Rangers fans (young & old) are excited about the reboot feature film that just started filming this month. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until next year to see it in theaters. However, the good news is that you can now buy Power Rangers Dino Charge: Resurgence, which just landed on DVD earlier this month. The single-disc set features four exciting episodes from twenty-second season. There are no special features or bonus extras, though the DVD does come with a digital Ultraviolet code.

Borrowing footage, props and costumes from the Japanese Super Sentai Series Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, Power Ranger Dino Charge centers on a new team of heroes - Brennan, the red ranger (played by Tyler Navarro); Shelby, the pink ranger (played by Camille Hyde); Koda, the blue ranger (played by Yoshi Sudarso), Riley, the green ranger (played by Michael Taber); and Chase, the black ranger (played by James Davies). Mentored by archaeologist Kendall Morgan (played by Claire Blackwelder) and the alien called "Keeper," the rangers must battle the deadly alien bounty hunter Sledge and his minions, as well as search and retrieve the missing Energems before Sledge finds them first.

This DVD features the episodes 5 thru 8.

DVD Review - Saban's Power Rangers Dino Charge: Unleashed

Retail: $14.98; Buy Link: Amazon

Kicking off a brand-new season on Nickelodeon last Saturday was Saban's Power Rangers Dino Super Charge. Fans (young & old) can also be entertained by the recent DVD release from LionsGate, titled Power Rangers Dino Charge: Unleashed, featuring four action-packed episodes from the twenty-second season.

Power Rangers Dino Charge debuted last February. Just like previous seasons, the series borrows Zords footage, props and costumes from the Japanese Super Sentai series (Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger).

"Powers From the Past" begins with an
intergalactic bounty hunter Sledge, in his spaceship prison, arriving on Earth in the pursuit of a alien named Keeper, who is the possession of ten Energems that Sledge is desperate to have in his clutches. Keeper outsmarts him by bonding each Energem to a dinosaur. Fast-forward sixty-five million year, where we are introduced to Tyler Navarro (played by Brennan Mejia), a young man searching for his missing father. After bumping into the evil creature Iceage, he must team up with a wannabe archaeologist Shelby Watkins (played by Camille Hyde) to save the day as the new Red and Pink Rangers.

"Past, Present and Fusion" starts out with Iceage still not defeated. Tyler and Shelby must team with Riley Griffin - the Green Ranger (played by Michael Taber), Chase Randall - the Black Ranger (played by James Davies), and Koda - the Blue Ranger (played by Yoshi Sudarso) to destroy Sledges newest evil plan to retrieve the Energerms.

"A Fool's Hour" Sledge unleashes his monsters on Earth and the Power Rangers must use their new Zords to save the day.

Review:

Yep, it's already that time of year when a slew of Halloween themed DVDs will be released. LionsGate released the single-disc Power Rangers: Trickster Treat DVD this week, featuring 4 monstrous episodes - Raising Spirits (Megaforce), Trickster Treat (Super Samurai), Zedd's Monster Mash (Mighty Morphin) and It Came from Angle Grove (Zeo).

Raising Spirits is the Halloween Special from the first Megaforce season. While Emma (Pink Ranger  - played by Christina Masterson) tries to make Halloween goodies at Ernie's, the rest of the rangers visit a medium, who shows them their past battles through a crystal ball. When the medium reveals himself as the creature Glytcher, the rangers must once again save Angel Grove.

Trickster Treat is the Halloween Special for the Super Samurai season and centers on Master Xandred's hatred for the holiday. He sends his newest Nighlok monster Trickster to Earth to trap the Ranger in a nightmare world where Trickster is in control of everything. The Rangers must band together to escape the nightmare and defeat Trickster.

Zedd's Monster Mash aired during the second season of the Mighty Morphin series and centered on Zedd sending his Putties to Earth to interfere with the Youth Center Halloween Party. While Tommy (White Ranger played by Jason David Frank) is taking children trick-or-treating, Goldar kidnaps and takes him to an isolated place to fight the monster Doomstone.
