{Sunday Post} — Lock Every Door, Lost Empire, and The Thinner

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • Sewer problems, ice, snow, illness, and family crises characterized this past week.

  • My father is ill; he has an infection in his leg, which might be a blood clot. He's at home on antibiotics and needs to go to the hospital tomorrow for a test.

  • The worst of my cough, cold, or whatever ailment you want to name hit me on Wednesday night. The home test indicates that I do not have COVID. To exacerbate matters, I've been having issues with my wisdom teeth.

  • It snowed a lot—a lot more than what the so-called weather forecasters were predicting. Several big tree branches fell, but luckily, they didn't damage anything.

  • On Tuesday, there was a power outage for a few hours.

  • Tuesday was also the day when the toilets began to misbehave. Not for sure if it's a "city" problem, a frozen vent or pipes, or a partial blockage in the mainline.

What Am I Currently Reading?

With the help of my trusty booklight, I succeeded in reading V.C. Andrews' Losing Spring during Tuesday's power outage. Making It So by Patrick Stewart will be my next book to read.

What's New on the Shelf?

Considering the snowy weather, I was shocked to see a fresh batch of books at Walmart. I picked up James Patterson's newest novel, Holmes, Marple, & Poe, and Riley Sager's Lock Every Door.

Don't be shocked; on Monday, long before the storm arrived, I made my usual trip to the thrift store and bought a few books: Clive Cussler and Grant Blackwood's Lost Empire, David Baldacci's First Family, Dean Koontz's The Whispering Room, Stephen King's IT, Stephen King's The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower), and Stephen King's Thinner

Now I understand what everyone is thinking—and, yes, I own all three King titles. Now, I own three copies of Thinner. The first one is worn out and is missing much of the back cover. The front cover of the second has teeth marks on it. The most recent pickup is in the best condition out of the three. The IT paperback is a 2016 version with a redesigned cover design. The Gunslinger is an illustrated version that differs somewhat from one of my other copies. Also, David Baldacci's First Family hardcover is a replacement copy for a worn-out paperback.

  1. Wow what a week. I hope your father is better soon. That's a lot to deal with. It's been snowing here and it's a mess. I hope this week is better. Wisdom teeth- not fun.

  3. That sounds like one heck of a week! I hope you're feeling better and I hope everything goes good with your father tomorrow! We had some weather as well this week but mainly just freezing temps. Keeping my fingers crossed that's all we get. And ack, wisdom teeth problems on top of it? Hope that gets cleared up too. I had most of mine removed when I was younger...ended up having 6 instead of the traditional 4 and they could only reach 5 of them. Hoping my last one doesn't ever become an issue.

Nice new reads! Lots of new to me ones too! I hope you enjoy each and every one of them once you get to read them!

  4. What a dreadful week! I hope your father responds to the medication promptly and that the weather behaves itself in the coming week. Glad you had some new and not so new bookish additions to the family - being a reader is such a lifesaver!

  5. Sounds like a stressful week! I'm the same way with Stephen King books. There are so many different editions. Every few years, I'm tempted to replace my entire collection.

  7. Hope you start feeling better and things calm down for you! I still need to finish IT. I made it through half the audiobook on a road trip with my husband and we never picked it back up.

  8. Your week sounds like it was pretty crummy. I'm glad you were still able to read even though the power was out. I hope this is a better week for you!
