{Sunday Post} — Command and Control, The Midnight Library, and The Zombie Survival Guide

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • Thank God the Thanksgiving holiday is gone. Did I mention in last week's post that I "hate" Thanksgiving?

  • On Wednesday night (Thanksgiving Eve), my dad was involved in an automobile accident. Thankfully, neither he nor the older man in the other vehicle involved in the accident were hurt. Unfortunately, my father's van was totaled.

What Am I Currently Reading?

Once again, it was a busy week, and reading wasn't high on my priority list. I'll finish Witch Fire sometime before the KC Chiefs game this afternoon. My review is due tomorrow for a blog tour, so I'm cutting it close. Also, I'm a few pages into Karin Slaughter's After That Night.

What's in the Mailbox?

The only thing new in the mail was the James Patterson book Alex Cross Must Die, which I had preordered a few weeks ago.

What's New on the Shelf?

The only thing I bought on Black Friday was Tom Clancy's Command and Control by Marc Cameron, which I paid regular price.

At Dollar Tree, I picked up I Know You Know by Gilly MacMillan, The Stories You Tell by Kristen Lepionka, and The Reckoning by Yrsa Sigurdardottir.

I went to the Salvation Army on Friday; it was an absolute mess inside it. I bought Matt Haig's The Midnight Library and three Lisa Gardner thrillers: The Third Victim, The Other Daughter, and The Perfect Husband. Before leaving the store, I saw a cart of books behind the checkout counter. Though I could be mistaken, I could have sworn I noticed several Star Wars titles. If the weather cooperates, I might go there early in the week.

I grabbed three free books at the library: The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks, Star Trek: Prime Directive by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country by J.M. Dillard. Yes, the Star Trek books are repeats for me, but I couldn't resist picking up "free" Star Trek books.

  1. Glad no one was hurt in the accident! Yeah, I am not really a fan of Thanksgiving either. I'm glad this holiday is once again past and over! I did enjoy spending time with (most) of my family though! Lol.

Nice new reads! These are new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here's my StS

  2. The Reckoning sounds good. I like most Scandinavian thriller writers.
Glad only the van was damaged and the people, including your dad, were safe! Hope things go better the rest of year.

  4. Just hopped over to your last week's post to find out why you hate Thanksgiving. Yikes!!! Those are VERY GOOD reasons for hating it. This was my first-ever solo Thanksgiving (all my people are dead) and I must say it was AWESOME. I just threw some stuff in the crockpot to make a Thanksgiving casserole and spent the day relaxing, eating, watching Zom 100...pure bliss!!!!!

I had never heard of Anna and the Apocalypse. Sounds good and Wiki says it's a Christmas movie so I will add that to my solo-Christmas agenda, along with the final 3 episodes of Zom 100.

I need to know if that Zombie Survival Guide book is good, when you get to it.

Sorry about your dad's van...that will be a hassle to deal with / get replaced, but glad he and the other guy are ok!

  5. So sorry to hear about the accident - what a nuisance that your father's van has been written off. Though I'm glad no one was badly hurt. We don't have Thanksgiving here and I have to say, I'm somewhat relieved. Christmas can be enough pressure... I hope the coming week is a good one, Bill.
