How To Keep a Movie Journal

If you’re a fan of movies, then you might sometimes find yourself forgetting what you’ve watched. You can curb that tendency by keeping a movie journal that allows you to record titles of films and your reactions to them. Not sure if this is right for you? Read on to learn more.

Set Theme and Scope

First, think about the theme and scope of your movie journal. There are plenty of options here. You might center it around a favorite actor, like Emma Roberts. In this case, you can make a list of all her movies and television shows, check off the ones you’ve seen, record your comments, and prioritize what you haven’t yet watched. You can even include facts and trivia about Roberts and some of your favorite pictures.

Your movie journal could also be more general. You might take a page for each movie you watch and list pros and cons, or you could make a wish list of all the films you still want to see. The possibilities are endless, and you can customize your journal to fit your needs and interests.

Decide on a Format

You must also decide on a format for your movie journal. You might simply grab a spiral notebook and start writing. Or you could fill up the pages of a scrapbook with your thoughts but also with pictures of actors like Emma Roberts, film stills, movie tickets, and other memorabilia.

Perhaps you’re more interested in keeping a digital journal. You can start typing your lists and reactions and keep a file or digital notebook of pictures, reviews, and other movie-related tidbits. You could even record audio or video files for your journal and save trailers, clips, and music all in one place.

Make a Commitment

No matter what format you choose, though, if you want your movie journal to be a success, then you must make a commitment to it. Take a few minutes each week to update your “watched” and “to-watch” lists. After you see a film, set aside a period of time to write your reaction. Make your journal a habit, or otherwise, you’ll procrastinate and lose track of what you’ve seen and what you thought.

Start Your Movie Journal

Whether you’re focusing on a particular actor like Emma Roberts or recording your responses to films in a more general way, your movie journal can help you keep track of the movies you enjoy and those you still want to see. So get started, and embrace a deeper interaction with the movie world.
