{Sunday Post} — Battle for the Planet of the Apes, Diablo Mesa, and The Scapegoat

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • It's after three o'clock in the afternoon, and I've just started writing this post. Why the lateness? I know this is a broken record, but here it is: I've been sick with a nasty cold for most of the week. My body is having difficulty shaking this thing off. Either I keep catching a cold, or I have the new variant. I tossed and turned last night, and the constant coughing didn't help. I attempted to sleep in a recliner, but that didn't pan out well. So, I didn't get any sleep until this morning and throughout the early afternoon.

What Am I Currently Reading?

My reading pace was going decently until midweek. I didn't pick up a book again until early this morning when I couldn't sleep, so I read 80 pages of A Life With Ghosts

What's in the Mailbox?

At some point during the week, I received a copy of The Legacy of Longdale Manor by Carrie Turnasky.

What's New on the Shelf?

When I was out and about getting cold medicine. I bought two new books. Now, they aren't exactly "new." Michael Connelly's The Crossing is a reprint with a new tie-in cover for the Bosh: Legacy streaming series. Preston & Child's Diablo Mesa is new to paperback; it was first published on hardback last year.

I found Daphne Du Maurier's The Scapegoat at a thrift store for 25 cents. A few of pages were scrunched—I believe that's the right word—and had a few tears. I've already made the repairs by covering the pages with parchment paper and carefully ironing the page wrinkles with a small iron. Then, I used acid-free, transparent tape on the tears.

Also, I bought three ten-cent paperbacks: Ghost Rider by Max Brand, Rising Sun by Michael Crichton, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes by David Gerrold.

New eBooks on my Kindle are Abaddon's Gate, Cibola Burn, Caliban's War by James S. A. Corey, and The Way of the Bear by Anne Hillerman.

  1. Love the Western, and that Battle for the Planet of the Apes novelization. Yes! I can't remember if I saw that one...

    1. Battle for the Planet of the Apes is the last from the original film series. The novelization author is David Gerrold, who also wrote the TOS episode The Trouble with Tribbles and the animated series sequel episode More Tribbles, More Trouble.
