[Review] - 'The Case for Heaven' Documentary {Pure Flix 3-Month Giveaway}

Watch The Case for Heaven on Pure Flix today!

The Case for Heaven, a documentary companion piece to the book The Case for Heaven: A Journalist Investigates Evidence for Life After Death by New York Times best-selling author and investigative journalist Lee Strobel, is streaming exclusively on Pure Flix at https://www.pureflix.com/movie/the-case-for-heaven starting on July 15th.

Lee Strobel is a former atheist turned Christian apologist. After a medical emergency that resulted in a near-death experience, Lee was determined to learn what happens after life on Earth. What happens after we die? Is there a heaven?

Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43 (NIV)

Guatemalan-American filmmaker Mani Sandoval (MeXXico Es Todo and Nine: The Enneagram) directs the 110-minute documentary. In the film, Lee Strobel looks for evidence of the afterlife to address our greatest fear — death. On his journey, Lee searches for answers to our biggest questions about Heaven, hell, and near-death experiences.

The documentary features interviews and real-life stories from best-selling author John Burke, world-renowned pastor & author Francis Chan, author Sharon Dirckx, professional skater Steve Caballero, musician Eric Owyoung, the Hawk Nelson band member Jon Steingard, the late Evangelist Luis Palau, and many others.

Additionally, there are a few near-experience interviews, such as former atheist Howard Storm. He had a haunting near-death experience during emergency surgery. He was dragged down a "dank, dark hallway" by unknown individuals who became increasingly violent towards him. During this event, he suddenly remembers a childhood song, "Jesus Loves Me." There and then, he asked Jesus to save him. A light appeared, and he came back to life.

We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.  2 Corinthians 5:8 (NIV)

Final Thoughts

I don't follow Christian nonfiction books as I should, so I went into this documentary thinking I wasn't familiar with author Lee Strobel. Then it dawned on me that I had read his book The Case for Christ nearly twenty years ago, though, sadly, I remember very little about it.

The Case for Heaven is a well-put-together documentary. I'm not sure who did the cinematographer, but there are several gorgeous camera shots in the film that left me in awe. I also liked the music by Eric Owyoung.

Is there a heaven? I believe there is life after death, but I cannot speak for everyone else. For me, the documentary presents real-life near-death experiences that confirm there is a heaven and hell. Heaven is a gift from God if we're willing to receive it. Hell is not a torture chamber, but you'll live in torment without God's presence in our daily lives.

Overall, I enjoyed watching The Case for Heaven. It's a beautifully-produced documentary with meaningful messages.
