{Sunday Post} - Dusk's Darkest Shores, Son, and The Woman In the Window

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

Yeah, it's been over a month since my last Sunday Post. Due to depression, high anxiety, sinus infections, allergies, and earaches, I had to take a break from blogging. The weather here has been nauseating with unusually cool temperatures and an overload of rain, which is the cause of most of my ailments, minus the anxiety and depression.

The latter has more or less increased because of my grandmother's declining health. The nursing home opened back up by appointment only in either late March or April, and my mother has been trying to visit once a week. Then with the snap of a finger, my grandmother could no longer communicate or feed herself. According to the nurses, she didn't have a stroke, though I beg to differ as all the signs are in plain sight. What do I know, right? Anyway, supposedly she has a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), which is the cause of her slurring. They gave her on antibiotics. Then nothing changed. The nurses ran more tests, and the UTI was still there, so she's back on antibiotics. I visited my grandmother on Mother's Day. She had no clue who I was. She thought her Mother's Day card read Mr. Christmas. Depending on which technician, nurse, or therapist answers the phone, my grandmother is either doing fine, more of the same, or going downhill fast. I wish the nursing home had sent her to a hospital, as the doctors there would have put her in liquids and ran the proper tests. I'm not a doctor, so my opinion doesn't matter.

So, in other words, the inevitable for my grandmother is around the corner. And the thought of it is the main reason for my current round of depression and anxiety.

What Am I Reading?

I'm finally getting around to reading Meant To Be by Jude Deveraux, though I haven't picked it up in several days. If my memory serves me correctly, I'm on Chapter 10.

What's in the Mail?

Dusk's Darkest Shores by Carolyn Miller is the only recent book in the mail. I'll be reviewing it for an upcoming book tour on June 1st. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment sent The Marksman Blu-ray. I've watched it but haven't gotten around to writing the review. RLJE Films sent the Son DVD, which I have viewed and reviewed.

  1. I'm sorry your grandmother is fading; that's so hard. I'm sorry too that you're struggling with depression and anxiety. I've dealt with the latter (and still do, though I'm managing it pretty well most days), so I empathize. I hope that you're getting some help with it.

Your Star Trek ebook haul reminds me that I haven't read (or reread) any ST novels in a while. Have you read Diane Duane's Rihansu series? I loved the first two.

  3. I can tell you from my own experience with my Mom who just turned 94, whenever she gets a UTI it's as if the dementia switch has been flipped on. She's just as you described your grandma. And then, after the UTI is cleared up (takes a few weeks) she's normal again. So definitely get that UTI cleared up! The lady that cuts my Mom's hair said it was the same with her mom! Her mom was in a nursing home and they didn't want to be bothered with checking her for a UTI so she had to get her doctor involved and the doctor had to call the nursing home and demand a urine test. Sure enough!! UTI! It's scary to think how many elderly people are wrongly diagnosed with dementia when all they have is a UTI.

I wish ALL THE BEST for your grandma and for yourself since you have been dealing with issues of your own. Hang in there!!!!

Oh and they had to try 3 different antibiotics on my Mom before they found one that worked so make them keep trying! Good luck!

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about what is happening with your grandma. I hope the weather improves and that you feel better. good 4 u is such a great song, hope you have a good week. My MIL had a similar experience with symptoms that resembled dementia and it was actually a UTI.

  5. I'm so sorry about your grandma. Sending positive thoughts and warm wishes your way!

Can't wait to read your review on The Marksman. I'm curious to see what your thoughts are. I actually really enjoyed it, but I enjoy all of Liam Neeson's movies, so I'm biased :)

Hope you are feeling better and are having a good week!
