Blu-ray Review: Trading Paint

AMAZON
Now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital from Lionsgate Home Entertainment is the racing drama Trading Paint ($22.98; R; 87 minutes). Directed by Karzan Kader, the film stars John Travolta, Toby Sebastian, Shana Twain, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Michael Madsen, and Kevin Dunn. There are no special features or bonus extras.

The film mostly centers around the estranged relationship between the dirt racing father and son duo, Sam and Cam (played by John Travolta and Toby Sebastian). Sam is a former dirt racer who's a big racing legend in his hometown. His racing rival is Linsky (played by Michael Madsen), a local car dealer owner, who convinces Cam to join his racing team.

Devastated (and mostly pissed off), Sam puts himself back into the driver seat to race against his son and find a way to mend their broken relationship.

Final Thoughts

Am I the only person on this planet who didn't know John Travolta was still acting? I believe the last film I saw him star in was the 2007 comedy Wild Hogs.

Trading Paint's plot is the barest of barest! The script never goes beyond the the father vs. son racing story and with an extremely short running time of 87 minutes there's absolutely no room for any character development; which is a shame as the acting isn't too bad, even Shana Twain gives a decent performance in her acting debut.

While watching the film, I kept wondering why the producers didn't edit out the f-bombs, as it could has easily gotten a PG rating if wasn't for the unnecessary language.

The picture and sound quality is fine on the Blu-ray. There are zero special features on this release, not even one deleted scene!

Overall, Trading Paint is a halfway entertaining film that could have been good with a better script and a little more racing!
