Review:

Arriving on DVD from Nickelodeon is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: NYC Showdown, featuring three exciting episodes from the 2003 series. There are no special features or extras on the single-disc.

The TMNT series was produced by produced by 4Kids Entertainment and Mirage Studios and aired from 2003 to 2009. It dropped the wackiness of the original animated series and was more in line with the comic books. There were were several three-episode DVD releases and a few season volumes released before Nickelodeon purchased the franchise. NYC Showdown and The Search For Splinter (available June 9, 2015) will mark the first DVD releases from the 2003 incarnation that Nickelodeon has released.

NYC Showdown features episodes 21, 22 & 23 (Return to New York, Pt. 1 -3). The turtles (Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael) and Master Splinter barely escaped New York after Shredder and the Foot Clan invaded their home. They take refuge at the farmhouse that belongs to a relative of Casey Jones. After they had fully recovered from the injuries, they decide to return to New York to make a final strike against Shredder.

With April providing computer Intel from their lair, the turtles and Master Splinter make a surprise assault on Shredders headquarters, but it is a lot harder than they thought it would be as Shredder has each floor of the building heavily guarded. Plus, the crazy Baxter Stockman has built himself a giant cybernetic robot and wants to destroy both Shredder and the turtles.

While I'm sure many diehard TMNT would prefer a full season DVD or Blu-ray set, we're going to have to settle for the 3 episodes per DVD releases. As a TMNT fan myself, I'm just glad that Nickelodeon has decided to bring out the 2003 series, even if it's only 3 random episodes. Unlike the episodes on The Search For Splinter, these three actually go together, though part 3 does end in a cliffhanger. Even if you have never seen the 2003 series before, you can easily figure out what is going on. Overall, all the episodes on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: NYC Showdown DVD are action-packed and I recommend it to other fans.
