Review:

Every October marks the time the studios repackaged old releases for Halloween, so it was a bit of surprise to have a new animated film with a horror theme being released direct-to-DVD. ARC Entertainment will releasing Under Wraps on Tuesday October 14, 2014. There are no extras or special features on the disc.

No, this isn't the 1997 Disney Channel movie of the same name. Under Wraps is a 48-minute computer-animated movie from director Gordon Crum and featuring the voices of Brook Shields, Drake Bell, Kazumi Evans and Matthew Lillard. The film centers on Danny and his older sister Eleanor, whom are tagging along with their archeologist parents on an expedition. While Eleanor is completely bored, Danny is having a blast on their trip. While nobody is looking he sneaks inside a pharaoh's tomb and steals an amulet. After they return home, he accidentally breaks the amulet and releases and evil curse!

Danny and Eleanor don't exactly see eye to eye on anything, but they must put aside their differences and work together when the curse turns their parents into mummies!

Most direct-to-DVD movies are at least 70 minutes, but Under Wraps is just under 50 minutes, but don't let the time fool you, as there is plenty of laughs and scares to entertain the whole family. The "mummy curse" plot feels like it could have appeared in a R.L. Stine's Goosebumps book. For a low-budget film, the computer animation is excellent throughout. The characters are well-developed, especially with the Danny and Eleanor, as they act like a real brother and sister. The voice-actors are topnotch! Overall, Under Wraps is a charming animation film that both kids and adults can enjoy watching around Halloween.
