First Impressions with Embroidered Shirts

Being stylish is important for any man or woman. Your style is something that will be judged by every person you meet. First impressions are very important when trying to build relationships. Relationships are the most important things in life. Your time spent enjoying the company of other people is what you will remember when you are lying on your deathbed contemplating the life you have led. A person’s first look at you can determine whether or not they consider being friendly. You want to make that first impression count. Build your style up from the ground. The shoes you walk on will be noticed by the people you meet. Women are especially crazy about shoes. Keep a pair of shoes ready and clean for any situation. If you’re a man, wear dress shoes with jeans and slacks and have some sneakers ready to go for more sporty occasions. If you’re a woman, you can never have enough shoes.

How to Look Confident and Approachable

Embroidered shirts are all the rage right now for both men and women. They’re not too flashy and not too trendy, and you can wear them for any occasion. Next, make sure to keep your hairstyle up to date. Use the same hairdresser and keep your locks trim and tidy. Some men have great facial hair and some just lack the ability to grow a great beard. If you’re a man, you know which category into which you fall. If you have a great beard, by all means grow it out and be proud. Make sure to buy clippers so you can keep your mountain man style from getting too scraggly and unkempt.

Why Music DVDs Still Remain Popular

It’s not difficult to buy music; you can get a CD or DVD from your local music store, or you can download your favourite song online. However, it seems like digital downloads have become the only real option of buying music in our modern times but some people still prefer to buy the original disk, and with good reason. It’s a great feeling to own an original music album of your favourite band.

When you shop online for music from different bands and artists, you can literally have thousands of choices available. From pop and rock songs, to classical music and gospel artists; you will find any genre you are looking for by simply browsing the internet. Most of the music stores will give you an option between a CD, DVD, or a digital download to choose from. This means even more freedom when you shop and you can do all this in the comfort of your own home.

Buying Music CDs

Most people still prefer to purchase music CDs over the option of a digital download as they want to have the original disk to form part of an collection. Another benefit of buying a music CD or DVD is that not all people own a digital music player or device, making it easier to play the album in your car’s DVD player, or at home. You can even play the disk in your computer if you want to. Although it’s much faster to buy a digital file that can be downloaded immediately, you won’t have any original media that you can add to your music collection, or that you can carry with you to play on conventional players.

Are Prison Reward Systems Beneficial?

Back in April, justice secretary Chris Grayling announced changes to the reward system in British prisons. The levels of rewards - basic, standard, and enhanced - will become standardized in prisons across the UK, and a new entry-level band will be introduced, restricting spending and requiring new prisoners to wear uniform for the initial fortnight of their incarceration. Moreover, rewards will no longer be provided merely for lack of bad behaviour: prisoners will have to actively work to gain their privileges.

Grayling expressed dissatisfaction with the expectation of prison privileges for good behaviour, saying, "it is not right that some prisoners appear to be spending hours languishing in their cells and watching daytime television while the rest of the country goes out to work."

However, President of the Prison Governors Association Eoin McLennan Murray has noted that prisoners' access to privileges such as television and gaming may be due to problems with prison overcrowding and a lack of available staff, stating that "the fact that they’re left locked up in their cells watching daytime TV is our failing, not theirs.”

Of course, this discourse occurs alongside a controversial question: should prisoners be allowed privileges and rewards in prison at all?

Grab Your Coffee and Hit the Books

Image from squirrelcircus.wordpress.com
Though it sounds overwhelming and perhaps even impossible, returning to college as your little ones mature is a growing trend among mothers. If you are seriously considering returning to school, earning a degree from South University, or entering any other bachelor’s or master’s program, then there are a few things you will need to know before your first day of class. So grab your cup of coffee because more than likely you will be drinking several thousand more cups between now and graduation.

Planning
Enrolling in school can sound frightening at first. There are course numbers and books and registration fees. But the first few days of class can prove some of the biggest shocks as you read through the syllabus and wonder how you will be able to finish all the reading in time.

But realizing that the transition back into a semester will be daunting and take time is key to keeping your cool. Take advantage of the fact that the syllabus is passed out on the first day and get to work right away. A planner or other daily calendar can help you to allot specific study times so that you will be able to visualize when the work can get completed in time before the due date.

Most likely, you will be learning many new skills as you return to the classroom. Whether you are attempting an online class or a traditional course, you will become familiar with online blackboards and file sharing for different classes. E-textbooks and interactive study programs are also popular. So allow yourself time to learn how to navigate these sites and adjust to the environment.

Elements of Beautiful Yard Landscaping

When you are doing yard landscaping, you can think of yourself as an artist. Your medium is all of the elements that you can use to create a beautiful landscape. The elements might be water features, soil, rocks, grass, trees, plants, shrubs, flowers, pathways, gazebos, furniture, wind features, and many other things. The elements you choose and the way they are used depends on the yard you are working with, your budget, and your imagination.

Water and Soil

Water features can be pools, ponds, lakes, waterfalls, streams, and fountains. These elements can be very small or very large. Most of them will require a pump to circulate the water to keep it from getting stagnant and smelly. Some water features include live fish and water plants that have to be monitored and kept healthy. A pool for swimming gets a little more complicated and will need to be maintained on a daily basis to keep it clean and healthy for swimmers. Soil is the foundation for most landscapes and should be conducive to growing healthy grass, trees, and plants. If the soil you are working with is lacking in the proper nutrients, you may have to add them into the soil before you begin putting things on top of or into it. A local nursery may have the ability to conduct soil tests, but it they don’t, contact another local entity that specializes in soil testing.

Tips on Writing a Realistic Romantic Plot by Catherine Bybee

Before I go into tips on writing a realistic romantic plot, let me start by telling my readers… and fellow writers… that life is much more interesting than fiction. Realism in fiction is relative to the characters in the book.

If an author is writing a vampire novel, the readers go into the book with the knowledge that the vampire is going to have to drink blood to survive. Obviously, in ‘real’ life this isn’t realistic. Is drinking blood to survive a real event? No…but for a vampire character in fiction…it’s expected.

Now let’s jump to contemporary novels. If I tell my readers that a woman is willing to marry a man for a year for a couple of million dollars, my reader will ask ‘why?’ What happened to my heroine that makes her sell herself out like that? They might even ask if this happens in real life. Notice that the same reader will often take the blood-drinking vampire as ‘realistic’ without a bat of the eye.

In contemporary romance, the author has to work five times harder to convince the readers that the situation in the pages is possible. What some of my readers are very aware of, while other aren’t, I’m a retired ER RN. I have honestly seen things in life that I NEVER thought were possible. I often laugh when a reader will write me and tell me that the situation in my book isn’t possible. Ah, yeah…dear reader, it is…

What Do You See in the Mirror?

Soft Light

In Season 2, Episode 23 of The X-Files, Agent Scully and her former student act as a doubled pair. Both are styled very similarly, and it is obvious from the beginning that this young character was created as a foil to the older FBI agent. Both are very similar in personality, and both share nearly identical skepticism to the fantastic circumstances in which they find themselves. The differences are minor, and these differences cause the younger character’s subversion and demise.

Doubling

The doubling between Scully and her former student is meant to mirror the doubling of the Scientist and his shadow. From the beginning of the episode, I was absolutely sure that because of the similarities between the two women, one would not survive the episode. I had seen later episodes, so I knew that Scully would survive and that it would be the younger that would die.

Is There ANOTHER Craigslist Killer?

Remember the movie, The Craigslist Killer? Well, that film was based on true events, and if you weren’t convinced then, you’ll definitely be convinced now. Shocking news surfaced recently, when reports of yet another Craigslist murder began to circulate on the Internet. The victim, 27-year-old Daniel Cook, was killed last Friday when a Craigslist deal took a turn for the worst.

A resident of Williamstown, New Jersey, Cook had been browsing classified ads on Craigslist, when he saw an ad for an all-terrain vehicle. He wanted to take a look at the ATV, but the seller was located in Pennsylvania. He was well-aware of the potential dangers involved in meeting up with strangers from Craigslist, so he rounded up his girlfriend and another friend, and the three of them hit the road for the Philly area to check out the ATV. Little did Cook know, he was driving straight into a trap from which he would not return.

Cook Murdered By Craigslist Seller

Cook and his friends arrived at the address, where they met up with Thomas Coffee, the 23-year-old who posted the ad on Craigslist. According to Cook’s friends, Coffee pulled him away, stating that the ATV was around the back of the house: that’s when their meeting took a violent turn. Cook’s friends reported that two gunshots were heard after the two men headed toward the backyard. Police believe that Coffee pulled out a gun and shot Cook twice after robbing him of the cash he brought to pay for the ATV.

Emergency responders arrived, and they saw a man on the ground with two gunshot wounds: one in the chest, and another in the ankle. Officials positively identified the man as Daniel Cook, and he was pronounced dead on the scene. Thomas Coffee locked himself inside his home, and would not allow police inside, but officers surrounded the home and waited until they were able to secure him.

Science and Science Fiction Books when Combined Create Great Works

In the first special science fiction issue released by the New Yorker, a new level of mainstream interest in science fiction was developed, giving a whole structure of New-Yorker obsessed avid readers go signal to take genre fiction. The said issue has included contributions from genre experts like Ursula K. Le Guin and Ray Bradbury and the rising “literary fiction” stars like Junot Diaz and Karen Russell.

In her contribution, Le Guin claims that in the past, very few people recognized expulsion from the Republic of Letters to the ghetto of genre. “Perhaps because ghettos, like all gated communities, give the illusion of safety”, Le Guin further noted.

Subsequently, science fiction has been sneaking into all types of new neighborhoods. In fact, the U.K.-based New Scientist previously launched Arc with a tag line as “a new magazine about the future”. On the other hand, the honorable MIT Technology Review also released a special issue of science fiction that includes featured articles from Cory Doctorow, Joe Haldeman and several others. Meanwhile, Ridley Scott’s hit television series, Prophets of Science Fiction, explores the power of fiction to purposely advance and complicate people’s ideas about the future, while Stephen Hawking is hosting the Science Channel’s Stephen Hawking’s Sci-Fi Masters.

Why The Superstition Mountain? by Stacey Thompson

Superstition Mountain is set in the Apache Junction area of Arizona in the late 1880's. There are a lot of legends set around the Superstition Mountains and they became the backdrop for this really fun and interesting story. It not only incorporates the Apache creation story, it also uses a form of the Lost Dutchman Legends. That's why it's such a great place to base a story that explores the boundaries of good and evil.

The story is based around a young woman named Ami who watched her mother die from a Vampire Demon named Price. She was trained as a Monster Slayer by a man named Wesley who has a past of his own. She is sent away for her own safety before Price attacks the only real family she's ever known. The Shaman and the other Monster Slayers. This sets Ami and Wesley on a mission to set things right and kill Price. Things don't go as they planned. They become instrumental in where the lines of good and evil really are and how far they will go for the people they care about.

These mountains were the perfect setting because there's so much lore in the area. From the legend of the Lost Dutchman's mines to the unexplained light shows that will happen at night. No one knows exactly where this supposed mine is in the mountains and many people have looked for the mines within the mountain. The legend talks about a man, Jacob Wilks, who found this mine and traded gold from it in the nearby city of Apache Junction. The problem is no one has ever found it.

The Apache creation story is also featured within the story. The legend talks about a small battle between what is translated into the Monster Slayer and the first evil of the Earth. Of course the Monster Slayer defeats the evil, but the question is does evil really ever truly die? I took great care in learning this story the best I could and incorporating it into the main line of the story. There are several versions of the creation story so I did my best to try and honor all of them that I found in my research.

This story is a great mesh of American Indian legends as well as some of the lore within the area. It's a wonderful mix of Wild West with Vampires and a sprinkle of Witches. I love this area and the mountains themselves and hope that everyone who reads these books will want to see the real mountains. They really are a magical and beautiful place to visit or live.

Superstition Mountain Trilogy Part One
Stacey Thompson

Genre: Parnormal Romance Western

The Order has been around for as long as Demons have roamed the earth, but when the first Demon starts a war, there are only a few left to finish it. Ami's different and one of the best Monster Slayers there is, but she's not ready to face the dark with the one person who knows her best, Wesley the one who trained her. She might just fall in love with him.

My Superpower by Catherine Bybee

Thank you so much for having me on your blog today. I’m taking requests for blog tour topics from my Facebook friends.

Today’s guest blog topic comes from Tracy… She asks about what superpower I’d love to have.

Oh, Tracy this one is so easy for me. As some of you may or may not know, in addition to writing
contemporary romance I also write paranormal time travels. Yeah, we’re talking kilted burly, drool-worthy guys and the heroines that tame them. Well, without plugging an entirely different book than Not Quite Mine, this question is easily answered by reading Silent Vows.

I’d love to have the ability to move objects with my mind. Oh…the possibilities. The housework that could be done in a blink of an eye, keeping that kid upright on their bike. Making that plate of food fall into the lap of the guy who just pinched the ass of the waitress. And the waitress wasn’t impressed. Yeah, I’d love to move stuff with my mind. Having Mr. Stud-Muffin accidently fall into me as I walk by. Yeah… that’s the power I want!

I grew up watching Bewitched and would run around moving my nose in an effort to have that power as a kid. *sigh*

6 Cars that Will Save You Money on Gas

Gas is a major expense for many families in the United States; and it’s also a cost that’s hard to avoid. That’s why you should look for a fuel-efficient vehicle if you do a lot of driving. Not only is it better for the environment, but it will save you money, too. So, take a look at these six hybrids that get good gas mileage.

Gas mileage: 51 City / 48 Hwy The Prius has always been among the most fuel-efficient cars, and Toyota keeps the price low so more people can afford it. It has a 4-cylinder, 1.8-liter engine that can go from 0 to 60 in 9.8 seconds. One thing that many consumers like about the Prius is its roomy back seat that fits three adults.

The Top Ten Murder Mystery Rules

SOME RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN. Others are broken at our peril. And still others are made to create peril, delicious, lovely peril for the victim in a good old fashioned murder mystery. With that goal in mind, for your consideration I hereby present my Top Ten Murder Mystery Rules. Mystery authors should feel free to stretch them to the breaking point, but do bear in mind that most of the great murder mystery novels abide by them all, and for good reason. They work.

1. There must be at least one murder, or else good reason to believe a murder has been, or will be, committed.

2. The murderer’s identity must be unknown to the reader. If the murderer’s identity is unknown to the protagonist but known to the reader, the book is a suspense or thriller novel, not a murder mystery.

3. The murderer may not be identified through a character’s psychic powers, or through magic, or through time travel, or a futuristic machine. In such cases, the book is some form of speculative fiction, not a murder mystery.

4. The murderer and the motive for the murder must be clearly identified in the novel, preferably at the end.

5. While the murderer may be insane, the reason for the murder must be understandable.

Sidhe, Freargde and Unseelie, oh my!

It’s difficult to fit so much history and magical creatures and well, general exposition, in three hundred pages. If I’d left nothing out there’s a good chance Silver Hollow would have been closer to five hundred. For those of you who were curious and have asked, here is more of my original write up of the magic behind this world within worlds.

Instead of the traditional outline, I wrote these little snippets about characters and people/places. The following is just a light portion of the bulk brainstorming.

The People

They choose to live with the old ways, contrary to what is popular or modern. Those outside the Borderlands often live in the cities, where they corrupt society at its core and abuse their gifts for their own merit. But those inside prefer to live in a way the rest of the world forgot. Each holds unique gifts like the angels in Amie’s last novel. Those in the Vale and Borderlands are forbidden to have contact with the outside world. Only a select few go into the cities for specific reasons, to protect their own interests and the interests of their own kind.

But as far as they’re aware, these people are not the descendants of angels. Their life lines are very long, though. It is difficult to tell their ages from person to person. Depending on the purity of their blood and the fullness of their power, one of their oldest can seem to be only thirty and be three hundred. For example, Uncle Henry was actually the younger brother but appeared far older than his younger sibling because he inherited more a gift for knowledge and learning than the Gifts.

Guest Post with author Rebecca Graf

Creating Suspense

Writing a suspense story is not something that comes just from putting words on paper. It entails much more than that. Creating suspense has to be crafted and done with just the right amount of subtlety.

Be Elusive

Suspense comes from never telling the reader everything up front. You don’t want to tell your readers that there is someone hiding in the attic. You want them to wonder what is going on in the house. You want to them to come up with their own wild explanations for strange things. You have to be elusive. Create strange things that happen in the story. The cook might accuse someone in the house of stealing food because some is missing. The gardener finds footprints walking to a wall and never returning. The vase of flowers keeps getting moved during the night. Make things out of place but don’t be obvious. It could be nothing. The explanation for it could be easily explained logically, but something makes the reader think otherwise. Add some nothings in the story. Don’t put a big neon sign pointing to the clue. If the reader misses it, okay. They’ll pick up on it later and be impressed that it got by them.

Using Dialogue

Many people forget that dialogue can be used to help set the scene. It only takes a word or a phrase to get the suspense intensified. If someone is being stalked, a friend could mention seeing someone by the door or ask why a window is open. Immediately, the target and the reader tense up. Sometimes peripheral characters are great for adding to the suspense. They see things the main characters don’t and can give the story a slightly new dimension.

Guest Post with author R. Costelloe

My wife’s love inspired me to write, but that takes a little explaining.

I wrote some as a kid mainly because of my parents. They encouraged me to try it, then cheered along my progress. In high school, I turned in science fiction short stories whenever the assignment scope permitted. In college, I wrote very little fiction. But I would sometimes compose novella-length stories while commuting by bus and subway train. In sort, I was an incidental fiction writer, at best.

But other forces were gathering that would eventually activate a compulsion to write. And they are forces that go back a-ways. As a child I developed an interest in romantic love that was unusual for a boy. And I guess I have a pair of older girl cousins to thank for that. They lived with us at various times, and I noticed that they were never happier than when they were romantically involved. Did I say happy? Better than that. They were near ecstasy whenever they were in love. I looked at them and saw something beautiful. As a result, I looked forward to the distant day that I could share such exquisite feelings with a girl who was just bound to be gorgeous. The only problem with this picture was that my cousins didn’t turn out to be very good at this romance thing. They were in and out of love because they kept getting their hearts broken, or they were breaking up with their beau of the month on a regular basis. Their woes caused me to look around at the relationships adults had, and that’s when I really got alarmed. Most adults had romances that seemed junkyards of how they started out. So humdrum, so bored, plus adults tended to let themselves go to pot, physically, so that they didn’t look the part of a romance partner anymore. Why was that? I didn’t know, but I was determined to have better if I could find a way.

What’s A Witch To Do?-The Soundtrack

I don’t do silence. I can’t. I grew up surrounded by chaos instrumented by three demons by the names of Ryan, Liam, and Trevor, my three younger brothers. These were not, and still aren’t, studious, well behaved darlings who liked nothing better than to sit down with a good book or play with her dolls like their angel big sister. No, these boys had enough energy and testosterone to supply an entire Starbucks and bodybuilding gym with some still left over to attempt to “kill” or “wrestle” their sister and each other. Screams, whining, and loud bangs on the television and walls were staples of my youth. So when I moved out on my own, I soon discovered I needed the noise. There is always a television or radio on, even as I fall asleep. This is true when I’m writing as well. I can write pretty much anywhere (if you have a strong desire to stalk me, see the acknowledgments page of my books to see where I write), but the one thing that helps get my creative juices flowing the most is music. The right song can make or break my scene, even inspiring me on some occasions.

As I’m writing, I find that certain songs really helped pump up the visuals and mood. They helped me get to a place where I needed to get inside my head to convey what was going on in my imagination and translate that to the page. Music just adds so much more to the experience. So I started compiling playlists for the books. Like the book, the soundtrack has a narrative flow in line with the book. You don’t have to like all the songs, I have eclectic taste, but at the very least if you sample them, you’ll get a feel for the book. Since this one, What’s A Witch To Do? is set in the South, and I am a closet country music fan, these selections are some of the best Nashville has to offer. Even if you don’t think you enjoy country music, just try one or two. We may make a country fan of you yet. So here it is:

Supplements Are Great in the Morning for Breakfast Skippers

Skipping the morning meal may give you extra time to get to class on time or beat traffic while heading to work, but you may be skipping out on some important vitamins and nutrients too. Fortunately, most of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that you need can be found in supplements; some of which need to be taken with some type of food or beverage, but a bagel or a glass of orange juice can take care of that without seriously slowing your schedule down.

Hazards of Skipping Breakfast

Skipping breakfast itself isn't bad, as long as you don't skip out on essential nutrients too. Having supplements instead of meal can have a significant impact on your overall productivity during the day. If you skip breakfast and do nothing to supplement the nutrients you are losing, you are more likely to make unhealthy eating choices during the rest of your day, according to research cited by the Society for Neuroscience. Other potential issues associated with skipping breakfast include:

  • Raised cardiometabolic risk factors
  • Elevated cholesterol levels
  • Decreased energy levels
  • Reduced productivity

Choosing the Right Supplements

Now that you know that you need supplements to get the nutrients you need for the day, the next step is choosing the right supplements. Everybody needs certain vitamins and nutrients to sustain energy levels throughout the day. Most of the vitamins you need to start your day can either be taken with breakfast or found in a supplement, which may include a protein shake, protein bar or a multivitamin. The basic vitamins and supplements that most people need on a daily basis include:
