DVD Review - Power Rangers Dino Charge: Resurgence

Not Rated; 92 minutes; $14.98; Amazon
I'm sure Power Rangers fans (young & old) are excited about the reboot feature film that just started filming this month. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until next year to see it in theaters. However, the good news is that you can now buy Power Rangers Dino Charge: Resurgence, which just landed on DVD earlier this month. The single-disc set features four exciting episodes from twenty-second season. There are no special features or bonus extras, though the DVD does come with a digital Ultraviolet code.

Borrowing footage, props and costumes from the Japanese Super Sentai Series Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, Power Ranger Dino Charge centers on a new team of heroes - Brennan, the red ranger (played by Tyler Navarro); Shelby, the pink ranger (played by Camille Hyde); Koda, the blue ranger (played by Yoshi Sudarso), Riley, the green ranger (played by Michael Taber); and Chase, the black ranger (played by James Davies). Mentored by archaeologist Kendall Morgan (played by Claire Blackwelder) and the alien called "Keeper," the rangers must battle the deadly alien bounty hunter Sledge and his minions, as well as search and retrieve the missing Energems before Sledge finds them first.

This DVD features the episodes 5 thru 8.

"Breaking Black" -  Sledge's newest monster, Spellbinder, puts a spell on Chase.

"The Tooth Hurts" - Riley and Chase clash on how to handle Sledge's monster, Cavity

"Let Sleeping Zords Lie" - After the Ankylo Zord gets infected by one of Sledge's monsters, Shelby must find a way to save the day.

"Double Ranger, Double Ranger" - The Ptera Zord becomes in danger after Sledge's newest monster steals the rangers' tracking device.

From left to right: James Davies ("Chase Randall/Black Dino Charge Ranger," far left), Yoshua Sudarso ("Koda/Blue Dino Charge Ranger," left), Brennan Mejia ("Tyler Navarro/Red Dino Charge Ranger," center), Camille Hyde ("Shelby Watkins/Pink Dino Charge Ranger," right) and Michael Taber ("Riley Griffin/Green Dino Charge Ranger," far right) star in Lionsgate Home Entertainment's POWER RANGERS DINO CHARGE: RESURGENCE.

Final Thoughts: After twenty-plus seasons, you would think the Power Rangers franchise would be getting a little stale, but changing the cast, plot and villains every few seasons helps keep it fresh (well, as fresh as it can be). While Dino Charge has it's many problems, the season is still better than the past ones; mostly thanks to the improved acting from the cast (I'm comparing them to the previous cast!).

The episodes are action-packed, but in a kid-friendly way. Yes, the formula is a little routine, but the fast-paced plots and great characters makes up for any shortcomings. Overall, all four episodes on the Power Rangers Dino Charge: Resurgence DVD are entertaining to watch.
