Minnie: Helping Hearts DVD Review

Disney; TV-Y; 96 minutes; Amazon

Now available on DVD from Walt Disney Home Entertainment is Minnie: Helping Hearts, featuring 8 Happy Helpers episodes. There are no special features or extras on the single disc.

The 11-minute Happy Helpers episodes air as the second half the Mickey and the Roadster Racers, a computer-animated children series that airs on Disney Junior. The Roadster Racers segments involves Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Daisy, and Minnie racing around their town Hot Dog Hills and the world. The Happy Helpers segments centers on Minnie, Daisy, and Cuckoo-Loc helping the citizens of Hot Dog Hills with odd jobs.

Since Valentine's Day is next week, the Minnie: Helping Hearts DVD does contains one Valentine's Day episode called "The Happiest Helpers Cruise!," which centers on the Minnie and Daisy taking a job as cruise directors on the Hot Dogs Hills Harbor Cruise.

The other seven episodes are:

The Big Broadcast - Minnie and Daisy cover for Billy Beagle as race announcers, as he races against the Roadster Racers.

Adventures In Buddysitting! - After the Hot Dog Hills Play Center closes for a day, the Happy Helpers babysits several kids, including a shy goat named Buddy McBilly.

Lights! Camera! Help! - The Happy Helpers are hired to be assistants to a movie star named Portia DeHoun.

Grandpa Beagle's Day Out - Billy Beagle hires the Happy Helpers to babysit his grandfather, Grandpa Beagle.

Artful Helpers - The Happy Helpers fill in as the security staff for the Fancy Art Museum. Their main job is to guard the Mona Goof painting.

Cuckoo LA-LA - Cuckoo-Loc's cousin, Cuckoo La-La, asks the Happy Helpers to assist her in the upcoming fashion show.

Figaro's New Friend - The Happy Helpers are more than glad to babysit Pluto for an entire day, but Minnie's cat Figaro isn't too happy about Pluto's visit.

Review: Vamprinia

Being released on DVD from Disney Home Entertainment on October 17th is the newest computer-animated Disney Junior series Vampirina, featuring eight 11-minute episodes. There are no special features or bonus extras on the single-disc.

Based on the Vampirina Ballerina children books by Anne Marie Pace, and executive produced by Chris Nee (creator of Doc McStuffin), Vampirina centers on a young vampire named Vampirina "Vee" Hauntley, who has moved with parents from Transylvania to Pennsylvania.

Life in Pennsylvania is completely different than Transylvania, mainly because there are humans everywhere, but Vampirina "Vee" adjusts to her new surroundings and befriends several humans.

The series features the talented voice-cast of Isabella Cramp, Lauren Graham, James van der Beek, Mitchell Whitfield
Wanda Sykes, and Dee Bradley Baker.

Episodes on the DVD includes:

  • Going Batty - Vee gets a case of the batties when she meets her human neighbors.
  • Scare B&B - Vee's mother, Oxana, opens up a B&B, and two vampires checks in as guests at the exact same time the neighbors are invited to stay.
  • The Sleepover - Vee invites Bridget and Poppy for a sleepover.
  • Portrait Of a Vampire - Vee's first day at a human school goes bad.
  • Vee's Surprise Party  - Vee's classmates throw her a surprise birthday party.
  • Vee Goes Viral - Edgar makes a web video of Vee and Poppy doing the "Spine-Chiller" dance and it goes viral.
  • The Plant Predicament - Vee and Poppy must undo a curse that has put on Edna's garden.
  • Mummy Mayhem - Vee, Bridget, and Poppy try to convince the mummy, King Peppy, that the visitors at the museum are still interested in him.

Mickey Mouse: Merry & Scary DVD Review

Now available on DVD from Disney Home Entertainment is Mickey Mouse: Merry & Scary, featuring the new television special "The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular!" and last year's "Duck The Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special." There are no special features, but the DVD does contain five bonus shorts.

Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are trying their best to scare Mickey's nephews (Morty and Ferdie) and Donald's nephews (Huey, Dewey and Louie) in "The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular!" by telling them the kids a very scary story. The problem is that no matter what story they come up with, the nephews are just not scared.

Like all other ducks, Donald always travels to the south for the winter, which means he always misses Christmas. Well, this year he decides not to migrate in "Duck The Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special," so he can spend the holidays with his pals Mickey, Goofy, and Minnie. Mickey tries his best to give Donald the greatest Christmas, but Donald quickly learns why Ducks migrate to the south for the winter.

The bonus shorts are:

"Ghoul Friend" - Mickey tries to out run a zombie.
"The Boiler Room" - Mickey battles an evil furnace.
"Black And White" - Mickey tries to chase down his runaway shadow.
"Entombed" - Mickey and Minnie must deal with a "mummy" issue.
"Split Decision" - Professor Von Drake's newest experiment goes wrong, which results in splitting Donald's anger into a unstoppable creature.

Elena of Avalor: Celebrations to Remember DVD Review

Now available on DVD from Walt Disney Home Entertainment is Elena of Avalor: Celebrations to Remember, featuring 4 holiday adventures and 2 bonus episodes. As an added bonus, the DVD comes with a FREE Elena Locket (18" necklace wit 1 1/4" x 3/4" Locket).

Elena of Avalor is a spinoff of the popular computer-animated series Sofia the First. Created by Craig Gerber, the series debuted on Disney Junior in 2016 and quickly became popular with children, adults, and critics.

The series centers on sixteen-year-old Elena, the princess of Avalor, who gets trapped inside an amulet for 41-years until Sofia the First set her free. She has the ability to use magic with her royal scepter. She can also see the spirits of animals.

The 4 featured episodes on this DVD release all have a celebration theme, such as Navidad, Dia de los Muretos,  and Carnaval. There are two random episodes as a bonus feature.

Disney's Descendants 2 DVD Review

Available today on DVD from Disney Home Entertainment is Descendants 2. Directed by Kenny Ortega ("High School Musical" franchise), the film stars Dove Cameron ("Liv and Maddie"), Cameron Boyce ("Jessie"), Sofia Carson ("Adventures in Babysitting"), Booboo Stewart ("X-Men: Days of Future Past"), Mitchell Hope, China Anne McClain ("A.N.T. Farm"), Thomas Doherty ("The Lodge"), Dylan Playfair ("Some Assembly Required"), and Anna Cathcart ("Odd Squad"). The DVD comes with a FREE Necklace with 5 Villain Icons.

Descendants 2 is the sequel to the hit musical fantasy television movie, Descendants, that aired on the Disney Channel in 2015. The original film centered on the teenage children of Disney's villains leaving the Isle of the Lost, so they can start anew in United States of Auradon. The sequel picks up several months later, where Mal, the daughter of Maleficent, (played by Dove Cameron) is having trouble adjusting to being a celebrity as King Ben's girlfriend. She's also having problems living a princess-like life. Eventually, she gives up, packs her bags, and runs away back to the Isle of the Lost. With a little help fro Dizzy Tremaine, Mal restores her purple hair, and returns to her villainous ways.

After learning Mal has left Auradon, Evie - the daughter of The Evil Queen (played by Sofia Carson), Carlos de Vil - the son of Cruella de Vil (played by Cameron Boyce), Jay - the son of Jafar (play by Booboo Stewart), and King Ben - the son of Beast and Belle (played by Mitchell Hope), sneaks into the Isle of the Lost to find her. Unfortunately, King Ben is spotted and is later kidnapped by Uma, the daughter of Ursula (played by China Anne McClain), and her gang of villains, who ransoms the king in exchange for the Fairy Godmother's wand.

Mal and her pals must come up with a way to save King Ben and defeat Uma and the other forgotten villains.

Bonus Features are:

  • Cast Secrets - Personal secrets are revealed by cast members Dove Cameron (Mal), Cameron Boyce (Carlos), Sofia Carson (Evie), Booboo Stewart (Jay) and China Anne McClain (Uma) during the filming of the movie.
