{Sunday Post} — There's Something About Secondhand Books

What Am I Reading?

My cold is finally gone, but my reading mojo hasn't returned yet. I had to put aside Forty Time A Killer! and speed-read another book for an upcoming book tour; I have now returned to the Western and hope to finish it in the next day or two before moving on to my long-delayed read of Defense Protocol.

Song of the Week

What's New on the Bookshelf?

Am I having deja vu? Wasn't The Texas Murders released a year or so ago, or am I thinking of another James Patterson book? Nevertheless, I picked up The Texas Murders because it said "1st Time in Print" on the cover. Hopefully, it's a good read because the quality of Patteron's books is a flip of a coin anymore.

I found several William J. Johnstone titles at a local thrift store: Valor of the Mountain Man, Ordeal of the Mountain Man, The Last Gunfighter: The Forbidden, The Last Gunfighter: The Burning, Invasion USA: Border War, and Jackknife. "Ordeal of the Mountain Man" replaces a battered copy, which I'll eventually donate. Additionally, I bought Under the Lake by Stuart Woods, Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman, and Those Who Trespass by Bill O'Reilly.

I found some more William J. Johnstone's Westerns at an antique store: Matt Jensen: The Last Mountain Man: Deadly Trail, The Range Detectives, Luke Jensen, Bounty Hunter, The Last Gunfighter: The Devil's Legion, and Red River Vengeance. Also, I picked up Patriot Games by Tom Clancy, Land of Wolves by Craig Johnson, and The Collected Short Stories of Louis L'Amour: Volume 7.

At a different thrift store, I bought Son of a Wanted Man by Louis L'Amour and the two-in-one paperback Noble Outlaw and A Distant Land.

Note to self: Always carry my cell phone. Yeah, I didn't think I needed my phone while running a few quick errands on Saturday morning. It's been a while since the local Dollar Tree got in a fresh batch of books and lord and behold there were many new books on the shelves. Despite my best judgment, I knowingly got three repeats: Marauder by Clive Cussler, A Gambling Man by David Baldacci, and End of Days by Brad Taylor. The good news is that I had Marauder in paperback, so I'll upgrade it to the hardback. My A Gambling Man copy has several dog ears, so I'll replace it with a new one. I'm not sure about End of Days; it's not on my "need list" on my phone, but I don't recognize the cover. It could haven't been one of the free "withdrawn" books I got at my local library; I've checked my book collection, yet. However, if that's the factor, I'll replace the old with the new.

My new Kindle titles are Daughters of the Morning Star by Craig Johnson, Blood Rubies by Michael McDowell, The Originals: The Loss by Julie Pec, and On the Royle Range by William J. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone.

  1. Glad your cold finally left! I hate how those things tend to linger! Mine cleared up finally as well and I feel back to normal! I admired your ability to go back and forth between reads. My brain can't handle that anymore so I always just stick with what I'm reading no matter if I want to read something else...as that can be the next read as I do want to read whatever it is I am reading that just not might be the right time for it. Usually I'm already passed the commitment point so I'm all in! Lol.

Nice new reads! New to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!
